Act 1's theme anyway. A new* TED talk by Aimee Mullins was posted to their site this morning, in which she addresses kyriarchy and the medical establishment about the word disability and what its use means in or for an individual's prognosis. Cross-posting it for the community to enjoy:

Aimee Mullins: The Opportunity of Adversity

Particularly poignant for me was her anecdote about meeting the man that delivered her, how incorrect his prognisis was and what he learned from that mistake.

*New as in posted recently. The talk was given at TEDMED 2009.

Not the first Aimee talk on here, but still a good one. Conveys a good message.

Very fine speech as usual. As I spend a lot of time with my nose buried in a thesaurus, the opening did a job of grabbing me by the ears, pulling me to the screen, and yelling out "NOW HEAR THIS, YOU [bleep]ER".
I can but hope we'll get some responses like this one someday.
