I actually think that almost everybody did that game or something similar... it's just natural to find something to think about while you're bored and surely Hanako hadn't much to do for most of her time.
The first time I read that in KS I thought of these:
xkcd: Floor Tiles
xkcd: What xkcd Means (last panel)

Dang, seems like a million people used to do that (myself included). Does that mean everybody's lonely then? That's pretty depressing.

Welcome to the forums, Humanity Phantom from Abyss.

I guess everyone likes to play a little game once in a while. I have done this, but not anymore. But I'm still thinking about it every time I'm walking on tile floors.

Not many things symbolize humanity, in either abstract or object form. This was the only one I knew of. Thanks though, it's nice to be welcomed.

I think I cracked the code!

I don't think you can play chess and only move on the black squares.... at least not if you're trying to win.

The Bishop piece can only move in diagonal lines, so it has to stay on the black squares. I suppose actually posting a picture of a bishop instead of a rook would have made more sense...

One of the bishops, anyway. The other one has to stay on the white squares.

I suppose two of the bishops if you're taking into account both sides. Now I want to play more chess...
