Glad to see that everyone is sticking with it and making progress. I'm going to be running my first race this Sunday; I'm a little nervous about it. I've never run with anyone except my wife. It's a 10k that my company participates in that looks fairly intense. My goal is to finish properly and see what my course time is. My ambitious optional goal is to pip my ever-so-fit-doncha-know boss. :)

Very well, thank you for asking. I ran the race last Sunday, but got horribly sick that afternoon and haven't been able to run since. :(

I was quite nervous at the start of the race; it was weird being bunched in the cold weather up with hundreds of other people waiting to run. As soon we started I was fine though, like "oh, this is just running. I know how to do this". I finished in under an hour, which was sort of my goal. I would have been a bit faster, but my shins cramped up almost immediately and stayed that way for about 6km. I made up time in the last 4. In all it was a lot of fun and I'd definitely recommend trying a race to anybody that feels somewhat ready; I may run more of them this summer.

I see from your signature that you're on week 4 - how's that going?

Nice! Good job toughing it out. It's getting somewhat warmer in my part of the world (Ontario, Canada), hopefully it's doing the same in yours.

Seems like for me it's actually "third time's the worst", or rather "third week's the worst". I had particular trouble repeating my 2K run from last week, so I tried to make up for it by going some additional distance after my initial runs the previous two sessions. Thankfully it paid off, as today I met my 2.5K goal for Week 3. If I continue the progress I'm making with my breathing, I'm hoping I won't cut it so close in future weeks.

That's actually just me constantly forgetting to update my signature. I've been redoing the week. I had to quit for a while because I had a lot of stressful events. I do Theatre and so I had to do the performance of a show, finals, and maintain a job and still prepare for finals. So running took a bit of a backburner. I graduate out of high school next week so once that is all said and done I should have time to really get back into running.

So I was out for my workout yesterday and I saw a guy get hit in the head with a can of soda. He was lucky it was a soft drink. Image

...Sorry. Butnotreally. I actually haven't been out for my usual routine lately. Switching over to a new sleep cycle so I'll kickstart the workout again in the morning. I'm not following the chart exactly so I'm not sure what week I'm on. I'll double-check it later and update. At any rate, my stamina's still going strong since the initial start of this whole "get off your ass and work out a bit" thing boosted it.

Helloooo. Fellow runner, or whatever exercise you done... or intended to do.

I run for the last time in January. Needless to say, My fitness is deteriorates since then but my flexibility are pretty much intact. I intend to start over Emi's running routine again as I will move to a dorm and no one would wonder why I "suddenly" become athletic. But I having seldom spontaneous chest pain. So I don't sure if I will got problem if I do that. I will have a checkup soon so I might ask the doctor about it.

Last fall I had completed week 4 but had to stop because of health problems and weather. The long winter and colds are pretty much over here, so I started running again. I've completed week 2 day 1 the other day and it feels a lot better this time despite the long break. I'm also doing the 100 push-up challenge on the days I take a break from running. I'm hopeful that I can see end in both of them this time.

I know that feeling. When I started running last fall, people around me were surprised in an annoying way.

So I was doing good and hit week 5. All was well, until my body decided to give me the finger and give me horrid cramps after 5-7 minutes of straight running. So I kinda gave my body the finger too (In a figurative sense, stop thinking that way you sickos). I was 15 minutes in on my run and was nearing my 2 mile mark. I was dying from exhaustion and the cramps were on both sides. I said fuck you body, you are getting fit whether you like it or not! And I bumped up my speed by another notch. at 17 minutes and 22 seconds I hit 2 miles (not my best performance) and I had to hit the big red stop button to keep me from keeling over. Just before I hit 2 miles I felt prickling sensations all over my chest and it kinda tensed up a bit. I'm not sure but I think I just almost killed myself today.

So I come back from work and the day was uneventful. My side was bothering me slightly but nothing bad. I get home and now my left side below my ribs is occasionally jabbing me with a sharp pain. my chest is a bit tense (only a tiny bit) and I've had to take a deep breath here and there just to be sure. My friends. Don't do what I did. Don't do a stupid. I did a stupid. Now I have to monitor my body for the next 2 days until I can get back on the treadmill and start the entire process again but this time with increased speed.

I will be starting from week 1 again but I'm gonna make sure my body is in check and I can gain some stamina to run my miles faster. I am most displeased with this. Any tips?

^ Giving my body "the finger" is how I fucked up an ankle. I advise not to do that.

Weather problems kept pushing back my running sessions from last week, so I could only complete Week 4 today instead of over the weekend. But hey, I did complete it. That's 3.2Ks (the extra .2 was to round out the length of the road I run on), or just under 2 miles. However, I know I won't be able to run anytime this coming weekend either (traveling conflicts), so the "official" start of Week 5 will have to wait a bit longer. I still plan to run on Thursday at least, maybe I can work a little bit on speed then.

Yesterday I returned to the track for my first run in nearly a month since getting sick. I completed a 5km run, but I felt fat and slow and short of breath. The only good thing was that my persistent shin problems seem to have healed very well. I'm running again tonight, and I'm hoping I can regain some of what I've lost. It's disheartening, but I'll press on.

Sk3tch, congratulations on graduating high school!

Akros, good to hear from you again. I hope things have calmed down and you've been able to get back to running or soccer; don't let it go a month, it sucks!

Completed W4D1 last night and it was one of the most difficult runs of my life. I was dead tired after a long day/week and ate like crazy only 2 hours before going for it. My body felt so heavy during the run and breathing was a lot more difficult. I had minor cramps in the stomach area but could manage it by heavily controlled breathing. The worst was when I felt like throwing up which happened several times. Somehow I could complete the run but I felt really awful. I don't remember sweating that much before either. I can be stubborn at the most unnecessary times. In the end half of me feels proud but the other half feels stupid. Anyway, learned the hard way not to eat that much before running.

The W3D3 of the 100 Push-up Challenge didn't go well either. Everything was fine until I literally collapsed in the last set managing only 11 out of 13. I'll be repeating that day again and possibly the week if I fail again.

After last weekend's delay, I'm now back on track. Week 5 is done, reaching 3.5Ks. I'm almost back to where I was last year, so excited. :D

I took two weeks break after my charity run, my shin splint felt better but after a week of easing myself back in the pain came back.
I went to my general practitioner this morning and he's pretty sure it's a stress fracture, he's referred me to physiotherapy and naturally running has to end for a month or two.

While I wait for that I'm going switch sports to keep it low impact, cycling on weekdays and swimming on weekends.
Physically this is no problem for me, I'm fairly experienced with both, but overall I think it's going to be harder as I find them much less fun. I didn't miss a single running day during the past three months, besides injury breaks.
