Also, note that this is close to the immediate aftermath of the accident. For all we know, Hanako may have looked like that soon after the accident.

There's no way Hanako was a 95% case. She's probably closer to somewhere between 30% and 40%.

Well, I mean the intensity of the burns, not the extent/coverage, as you mentioned.

at least the girl made out alive. the poor girl had multiple surgeries and skin transplants, lost 8 kgs in the hospital and took 1 month to be able to walk again.
The guy went to the hospital too, but died in the same day they were going to celebrate their 5 year aniversary together
I misread that first part as her boyfriend was physically Five years old.
Then I reread it an understood you meant "boyfriend of five years"
English is not my first language so fuckups like these are possible lol

Probably a mix. Her back and side look like they may have been third. But her head and arm were probably closer to second.

When I first got to the end of Hanako's act 2, I cried just imagining what she would have went through in the hospital. At 8 years old, at that. The music sent it all the way home.

No kidding. And not even parents to support her through it all. :(

Just another reason to want to love her.

Honestly, I believe you don't have to have a "good reason" to love someone. Just as long as you can make that commitment, be loyal to them and back up your words and feelings, what else matters? That's what I think people are getting at. They think if your reason isn't "strong" or you haven't known someone a long time, you can't possibly truly love them. Well, it all depends on a person's level of wisdom and understanding.

Not saying that the story is fake in any manner, but i haven't heard very flattering things regarding kotaku's journalistic integrity, so i would recommend you guys to "keep on your guard" so to say.
This is not Kotaku, but rather Sankaku Complex... which is even more trashy and tabloid-like, if possible!
However it seems that this time they treated the story with respect and integrity, rather than the usual "Things made in China explode, duh" jokes.

My thoughts go to the girl and the hospital team, hoping that something could be done for her.
Katawa Shoujo is a game that, by all accounts, shouldn't exist, but it does and we're happier because of it!

I hope that the girl is still alright. It must have been really painful to go through all that she did. Hopefully she still has a future ahead of her and her parents are ok too.

I think we can all be glad that Hanako's scars don't look like this

It's not about what we want scars to look like, it's about what's fair. *flips coin*

No matter how bad the scars would look, she's an animated sprite and would not have the same effect as seeing a real person like that.

But her story in our hearts is what is more important, and hopefully when we see a real person like her, we will treat them more kindly than we would have before.

Hear, hear.
You are not alone, and you are not strange. You are you, and everyone has damage. Be the better person.

Having looked at the images, I can say that I honestly don't think those scars would make any difference to how I felt about a person like Hanako; the way I see it, underneath the skin we're all very similar (in terms of muscle/bone structure). It's what we're like as a person (personality) that truly defines us, not how we look from the outside. I guess that's why I don't find models truly attractive like I see some people do; I mean sure, they're pretty physically, but again, that's not how I judge the 'worth' of a person (terrible word, I can't think of anything better to use though :/).
Emi > Hanako (extremely close second) > Lilly > Shizune > Rin

With these beautiful FanFictions included (Hanako: http://ks.renai.us/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=6750 Rika: http://ks.renai.us/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=5920 Suzu: http://ks.renai.us/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=6192), the order goes:
Hanako > Emi > Rika > Suzu > Lilly > Shizune > Rin
