But seriously, it's awesome. I just managed to get through all of the currently translated content. (This VN is sadly currently being translated at a snail's pace due to the translator being occupied with more important matters. However, the currently available routes, 4/6 main routes, are pretty much standalone and can easily be enjoyed by themselves. Latest patch: Click here.)
However, here's the most impressive factor of this VN. Almost all high rated VNs on VNDB have those scores thanks to highly depressing/saddening emotional scenes that grip the reader. But Majikoi never relies on saddening the reader. Instead, it makes the reader smile. I literally couldn't stop having a goofy smile on my face through the majority of it. This is like the only top rated VN that doesn't depend on making the reader cry. It does have a couple of very nice emotional moments, but those are moments where you feel warm and fluffy inside. Very very few outright sad moments. Yet it is great. A healthy dose of comedy and a healthy dose of its main theme of "friendship" balanced really well. This is a VN that just SHOULDN'T BE MISSED.
(PS. Not for you if you are someone who can only enjoy a story that makes you cry. )

I went through it once, but was so turned off by the idea of having to loop-replay it many times to complete it that I never touched it again. Your mileage may vary.
Also, and fairly oddly, the removal of the usual sex scenes from the VN left a few potholes in the plot. I imagine the porn would have been as dire as always, but the hack job isn't very inspiring either.
Hanachirasu is a 100% classic, standard VN instead (the first time around, at least). While it gets very faux-technical about faux-swordfighting techniques at times, it never got to the point of boring me - and I found the plot twists (more like U-turns) to be worth the wait.
It's not a progressive, daring piece of writing by any means, but I recommend it.
Well, I really loved the card-based battle system from Princess Waltz, but from the screenshots I can tell that Aselia is a tad more advanced than that. I think I'll definitely give it a try - Hanachirasu will be going on my list as well. Much appreciated.

OK, i need some advice on whether I should try Sengoku Rance. And no it's not for the sex scenes, I hear it has some kickass turn-based strategy game in it. Although it does fall under a VN too. ANyone here play it?

Well, I didn't watch the anime first. I read the manga, then got a little curious and youtubed some scene, after that I fired up my torrent and hunted for the visual novel.

What route does the manga follow? Or is it another entirely new storyline like in the anime?
1) Kana - Little Sister; it has already been mentioned before, but it's - at least in my opinion - the best computer game ever. As it tackles some controversial topics (like incest), I can only recommend it to the open minded, though. A really sad, heart-wrenching and melodramatic story; but lovely Kana is simply adorable.
2) A fairly unknown VN about complicated relationships called Ori, Ochi, Onoe, which you can download for free; if you liked the somewhat dark and gloomy atmosphere in Rin's path in KS, you may enjoy this one as well.

I read six chapters of it, entirely out of boredom. So far, it's pretty good. Most of it is a mix up of all the routes in the game, however. Only the scene where (minor spoiler) Moro is kidnapped in the beginning by a thug who wanted to get to Momoyo seemed to be an original scenario within the first six chapters.

Well, that's just my personal opinion. There are other games I've liked to play so far, but KLS was without a doubt the most touching one with the deepest impact. And it definitely constituted an important reason why I was happy to get to know Katawa Shoujo - finally I had found another game with a comparatively deep meaning, touching serious aspects of life in a similar (though for the most part a little more jaunty) way.

Well, that's just my personal opinion. There are other games I've liked to play so far, but KLS was without a doubt the most touching one with the deepest impact. Just from what you've said here, "best story" seems more appropriate even for your opinion, as a game has to have some great gameplay to be called "best game", and you're just looking at the story factor alone. Anyway, it's just semantics, I guess.
Of course I'm biased when it comes to this matter.
As it's usual for a VN, KLS has almost no gameplay at all - unless you want to consider it being gameplay to merely click through walls of text for hours. But in my eyes it's the story that counts - and the story in this game is more touching and made a deeper impression on me than many other games, even though they may be able to offer much better gameplay than a VN.
You might ask: "Then why don't you go and read a book instead?" - Well, you know, I didn't choose that user name for no reason...
