A Week of Memories part 6: You and Me

Whoever comes up with the best and most creative use for fans gets a prize.

Also, what's your favourite memory of the KS development? Do you have any?
<Aura> would you squeeze a warm PVC bottle between your thighs and call it "manaka-chan"
<Suriko> I would do it if it wouldn't be so hard to explain to my parents

Sir, we are your soldiers in the argument battles against other VNs or teh Japanese conservatives. That's how you can use us the best.

While we are here discussing, Hanako is somewhere hopping from dark to darker tiles. Alone.

So, it's very likely that nothing any of us ever does in life after this will matter as much to as many people as this cripple porn game.
My guess is that you are now much more likely to repeat the experience, maybe not through game production, but through something else. You've been there, done that, got the footprints on your t-shirt. You know it can be done. You know how to do it, at a meta-level. You know what it tastes like, to touch lives, do great things. It's addictive. It's easy, when you know how.

From here on out, changing the world is just something you do.

Making it known that life changing events can come from something as unlikely as this game. That or using the fan base to create vast monuments to the game in the style of the Egyptians. It's our turn to take on the slave labor.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing. I didn't think that through .I guess the machine won in the end. :)

You can collect their tears, bottle them, and sell them. "Bottled emotion-caused-by-KS extract."

Easy.

You use fans to make yourself feel cool.

On a serious note, I've lurked around this project, these forums and the shimmie for about 4 of the 5 development years. Was in awe of the act 1 release, and had to force myself away from the keyboard the night of release so I wouldn't have to call off of work from lack of sleep the next day.

Since I rarely ever bother logging in, I just thought I'd take the time to say thanks, to all of you, for seeing this project through to the end. It's one thing to have a great idea, to have a great story sitting in your mind. It's one thing to start a project with the finished result looming away the sun on the horizon. It's something quite different, though, to finish it.

Above all other things associated with this game, I think your shared commitment is something that I admire and respect the most. Even though it doesn't seem like anything else is on the way now, just know that any future projects you guys partake in, you'll have this fan's full support all the way.

Thank you.

Thats actually not a bad name for a charity or an out reach program to go read and play board games with, say, lonely hospitalized kids.
Sorry for my grammar and spelling. I am not very good at those...

The blog post stated, "Something that has really blown us off our feet has been the large amounts of incredibly emotional response to Katawa Shoujo that we've seen. I've seen people confessing having cried after playing KS, or otherwise feeling moved... I mean, if even one single person's life is actually changed for the better as a result of KS, we've done something objectively good."

Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't sound like the sort of statement I would expect to see regarding a project that began on 4chan. I don't expect to see anything thoughtful or constructive on 4chan, or almost any other imageboard. From what I remember of the first Katawa Shoujo demo, the writing wasn't bad... I was expecting the sort of swear-centered humor which shows up in the fan game Love Hina Sim Date.

But yeah, fans find inspiration in all sorts of media. I have seen a number of threads on Ponychan about how fans were deeply affected by the cartoon Friendship is Magic. As for myself, I've found an unexpected amount of inspiration from Angel Beats and Inception. And if I didn't make it clear, I have no problem with people enjoying Katawa Shoujo.

Right now I have KS sitting on my hard drive. Over the last week, I have played a few other video games (modest amounts of Pocket League Story, Dragon Quest 4, and Tokimemo Girls Side 1 DS, along with reading the first few scenes of the Vocaloid visual novel Mirai no Kimi to, Subete no Uta ni). Eventually, I will get around to KS, and see if I find its writing enjoyable...

All right, I know this means nothing - but thank you for the incredible experience. I shared this game with at least 4 of my friends despite some incredulous reactions as to the content matter...and they ended up loving it just the same. It's been amazing, and now us 5 are suffering (yes, really) from the realization that the ride's over. The thought occured to me once I'd finished that maybe I would have been better off not looking into this visual novel just so that I wouldn't have to face that something that had been created so lovingly, so perfectly, and so appealingly to even those I know would never look into dating sims (and especially eroge stuff) is over and done with for good. It was a stupid thought, of course, and I will fondly reflect and revisit Katawa Shoujo for some time to come.

A story crafted so wonderfully, powerful situations that gripped at my heartstrings, incredible art work and effort into portraying the emotions of the actors onscreen, a diverse and at times shocking musical accompaniement...and Kenji. What more could one ask for?

Thanks again, 4LS. I don't know what else I can say.

Most of the fans are pretty much under your legion, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to put some kind of mind-control pop-up or script in the forum or blog. You never know...

Might get stuff done quicker =w=b

Also love you Aura and devs~

First time posting here, only recently finished my second route (Rin was the first, Shizune second.) And I am incredibly impressed with the work you've done on this. I've not read many VN's, since I usually get bored of them about half way through or after finishing one route, but with this I actually want to see what each route has in store, even going as far as to avoid most of 4chanto avoid spoilers.

I also have to mention the personal impact the game had on me. I'm usually one of the people who never really follow through with their New Years resolution, but this has inspired me to the point where I'm making an actual effort to follow through with it. I even made an attempt to start drawing again, something I haven't done ever since I graduated 3 years ago. It's also made me look at myself in a more positive light, since I was always depressed and had no real direction in life and just wasted my days in front of a computer screen. Now I feel like I need to do something more with my life.

Thanks to this game I feel for the first time in a long while that everything is going to be okay, and that it's okay to be me.
