So, art is the last thing that needs to be done for a path? So, Hanako and Rin are completely done? We know Lilly and Emi are done with Direction, so we're just waiting on Shizune and some art.

Sounds like it. As I understand, the "direction" being done means the writing is set in stone, and ready as it's going to be. From there they just need the artists to finish drawing any unique sprites or CG's as needed from the direction.

No, it's more than that I think.
Direction means stuff like when to cue the music or sound effects, when to move sprites left to centre, use of sprecial effects etc.

This is correct.

As far as writing needing to be done for art, the writers worked out general lists of art assets that would be required in the early stages of writing so that the art could be done as writing progressed. Direction also turns up more required assets, so the number of general needed art assets has fluctuated quite heavily during development.

Actually, they haven't made a blog post saying that Rin's direction is done. Looks like the art can be finished independently of the direction.

For anyone confused as to how one area of KS could be finished independently of others despite seeming inseparable, keep in mind that (if my own few experiences as an artist and writer are any indication) it's very common to spend a lot of time tweaking, nitpicking and adding detail to a piece that, to a casual observer, would seem to have been basically "done" long before.

Although considering how long KS has been in production, I'd be willing to bet most of the devs are probably trying to minimize that stage as is possible too while still holding up to their own standard of quality, so that they can just be done with it finally.
