While this level of twisted is way outside of my pay grade, (at least, it is when inflicted on the cast of KS,) I'll admit I'm interested in the discussion. I can't really form an opinion past 'Aaaah, why would anyone do this', but at the same time, it seems like a shame to only cover fluff. There are positive aspects of dark stories, unique qualities you can only explore in the extreme ends of the spectrum. I'm just too squeamish to look for them, is all.

While I'd really like to to discuss that, most people have opted out and we wouldn't be much of a book club if there was 2 people talking while the rest ran away screaming. Maybe we can desensitize people and do it later.

I think my issue isn't so much sensitivity as the entire Harlan Ellison homage thing. It's like Ellison without the careful stagecraft, and it doesn't need KS characters to do. So it's (in my perspective) generic shock applied to KS, rather than KS applied to generic shock. I had no feelings for the characters in this one because they were clearly not our 'real' characters. But that's just me.

The shock stuff, meh, neither good nor bad I'd say. But I was really disappointed with the plot; just became more and more messy. Also I usually stop caring when it feels like you can never tell what really happens or is just—twist—an illusion!
