I'm game with this, let me think, I'll choose some fic I read of a acceptable level of awesomeness, and I'll take suggestions, and give everybody a day to read or if it's something longer like the Suzu pseudo-route for instance maybe a couple days, and the current book will be on the main post, then we can come together and talk about it and such, but normal discussion would be permitted. Does this sound permissible to everyone?
No, because there's absolutely no way anyone could ever possibly finish Tomorrow's Doom in three days, at least not without completely cutting themselves off from life. I might be biased in that regard...
Of course, a meeting could be as long as two weeks i think. It would be up to the club president (presumebly sea) to put reasonable qouta.
I think that could work. What did you have in mind for the first meeting mister president?

Maybe the reason Miki routes never get completed is because she doesn't seem to have any kind of really complex anxieties or issues and it never feels organic to try and give her any. She seems more like an "action" love interest, the kind of girl Hisao would fall in love with as they were both hiding from a psychotic jewel thief, than anybody he could have some kind of long, subtle relationship with.
If it is written from Miki's perspective (eg. COM(promise)), then the "route" could become about a relatively healthy girl pulling a boy up out of a sad sack of heart attack related issues. Here, the good ending is that Hisao recovers his will to actually live and they jog off into sunset; the bad ending is that his post-heart attack issues prove too intractable and she gives up on him.
I like all the girls in KS, but empathize with Hanako the most.

This would be an interesting angle to approach the Miki problem from. Sure, she seems like such a natural choice for a love interest, what with being pretty, athletic, and charming, but all the canon love interests have deeper-set issues that become the main points of conflict around which their stories center. I suppose Lilly's route is probably the least like this (the conflict is more external, yet exacerbated by Lilly's need to keep everything close to the chest). With Miki, some kind of internal conflict must shoehorned in if it is to play to those themes. What would be more interesting is to turn a story like that on it's head, i.e. making the central conflict the fact that there's really nothing wrong with the relationship, but Miki as a person doesn't really fulfill any deeper companionship needs. In such a story, a "good" ending would probably involve a breakup, with both characters realizing that they don't really do anything for the other romantically.
Unfortunately that's the kind of ending I could never enjoy. I can't view an ending as good unless they end up staying together and their issues are, more or less, resolved. Kind of reminds me of how I've read a few Miki stories(and a Misha one) where they started as "friends with benefits" rather than actually be dating, and is the kind of relationship I absolutely hate. Yeah, in the Misha one and one of the Miki ones they ended up dating later on, but I just skimmed the story till it got to that point.

Then again, I'm of the opinion that the best ending of Rikabro's Rika route was the neutral ending, and they do break up there. (The bad ending was legitimately bad, but the good ending wasn't good IMO.)

There's a few other angles one could take things, for Miki... who says it has to be a Miki x Hisao route? A Miki POV route in which she realizes that she's a lesbian (canon doesn't contradict that), but struggles with her sexuality (a heartbreaking way to take it would be her realizing that she's just not attracted to guys while on a route with a guy (because that's what she's "supposed" to do and all, get with a guy) that she does care about), for instance, could work. And, just because Miki gives off an air of confidence, doesn't mean that she's not hiding some serious damage - look at Emi or Lilly, for instance.

I like this idea, it seems fun. It would be a good way to organize the otherwise random, scattered posts with a list of good stories on them.

(Begin off-topic conversation, sorry)

Pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. I believe I actually sent a text to my friend at one point saying "For too long Hisao has been the white knight. Perhaps it's time for a role reversal."

This made so much sense that I laughed.

Ooo, the pressure. :?
It response to the question, the reading period could go for 2 weeks, it depends upon the fic we choose, and through the magical powers of the Library and randomly scrolling down and clicking a link, the first fic shall be:

Katawa Kijo - Route by Mirage_GSM (completed, 46.862 words)
PoV: Hisao; Pairings: Hisao x Misha, Kenji x Hanako; Begins: after Act I – “Misha end”
Remarks: non-standard setting (magic)

A few things of note, I've read it before, but I don't mind reading it again as it was a a fun and amazing read, it's a bit non-standard but this is gonna be one weird book club so lets start the trend now. I'll say we can start the meeting in full say, on the 28th, sound good? A week should be enough time, but I can extend the reading period if not enough people get that far. Or maybe it's too much time, idk. Not sure what else to say, but good reading to you all and here's a related picture that is super cute and can art least make sure this post isn't missed by all wishing to participate in the club.

Damn. A banner already?

People, what do you think about having a club member's list? with people who are members get the right to vote on the topic of the next meeting and other important stuff.

I'd probably avoid that, we don't want to establish a hierarchy of book club elites, it might scare off new members. Hell, I know I was scared to talk outside of my own threads for a while, then I realised people know who I am now, so I shouldn't be hiding

It's true but its literally as easy as going to a meeting to join, not some great hurdle that sets members apart from mortals

The majority of people will be added at the meeting, I want to give everybody time to read before we get into it. Consider this a beta period

Well, we were thinking maybe have to only criteria to be a member is to be on three meetings (or be on the first founding meeting) so it doesn't seem like such a difficult feat to join.
