Katawa Shoujo: Story of Miyu Nakai.
Chapter 1

A light breeze sters the naked branches overhead as a wait in front of the school. I had been waiting for the past half hour after students had been let out. I brace myself against the cold, starting to get a little upset at my brother. Had he joined some sort of club I was never told about when I was away?

I couldn't help the slight mix of worry and anger building inside me the longer I waited. I rolled my wheelchair back and forth a little, then rubbed my gloved hands together, all trying to prevent myself from growing numb in the cold. pushing a loose strand away from my field of view, I turn my chair.

"Oye! Nakai senpai!" couldn't help but sigh heavily as a familiar voice called, looking over I found just about the last person I wanted to see, having just gotten out of spending the last two months in hospital, Shun Iwanako… I was never really comfortable around him, sadly he is also just about as dense as a boulder.

"Nakai senpai! They Finally let you out!? Are you waiting for your brother?!" he called again, his grin wide. He was a year younger than me, attending a middle school a few blocks away.

I nod mutely, freezing up a little as he places his hand on my shoulder, evendly he had been running to get here as he seems out of breath. "I- I guess you're here to meet y-your sister?" I managed to eventually reply, rolling back trying to put at least a little distance between myself and Shun. Not sure why he needed to get so close to me. I had met him at the start of school, when I had first started waiting for my brother. I had always been shy and reclusive and thus I had always been first out the door, whilst Hisao hung back a little bit longer to socialise with his group of friends

"yep! Sakaura Said she will be little after school!" he exclaimed excitedly, jumping up and down. I am not sure if it is him trying to get warm, or his own exuberance, or just him showing off that he has legs he is able to use. All the while, reminding me of my own physical fragility… it was what had partially led to being in this wheelchair in the first place. His sister, Sakura Iwanako was in the same year as my brother Hisao. I couldn't help but wonder if they were connected somehow… regarding the tardiness.

As uncomfortable silence fell between us, I watched the now thicker snowfall descend from the white-painted sky. The snow started to mix with my brown shoulder length brown hair, gradually making it increasingly damp and cold… there is something uncomfortable in the air, made all the worse when I do not know what it could be.

"HISAO!"
The echoing scream caused the hairs on my neck to stand on end, and I almost fell out of my chair. I push my chair through the snow, that seems to fight me at every push at my wheels… as if trying to prevent me from reaching my brother.

getting past the school gates, my wheelchair unexpectedly dips down violently, flinging me out into the cold cushion of snow before me.
"Hisao!" I crock out and reach out, before the world around me faded to black.

It would be a week before I woke up again, finding myself in the familiar setting of a hospital. Over the course of four months, I layed in hospital as the doctors worked on my wounds. My legs had to be amputated, and my arm that I had landed on was put in a cast. Me returning to school had been dubious at best before, but possible, now though I didn't need to be told that it would be out of the question.

As it turned out, my Wheelchair had been wrecked when I had fallen, though the doctors never seemed to explain how, only that it involved the ambulance in some way. I wasn't able to move until the fourth month when my wheel chair was finally returned, or rather a brand new wheelchair fresh from the factory, though it wasn't without being scolded about being more careful in the future and they had needlessly confirmed my theory that I wouldn't be returning to school.

I had fallen into the habit of asking the doctors about my brother, making me increasingly nervous each time they shuffled around non committal answers they would give me, if any.

It was from my parents that I learned that Hisoa had undergone his own surgery… Arrhythmia. They did their best to explain what it was though I still do not fully understand, other than something about his heart rate being erratic at times. it seemed he had it sense I was six, and no one had noticed until now… and that he would live with it for the rest of his life. Though again I didn't fully understand what this meant. The only thing I knew for certain was that I could consider myself lucky that I still had my brother in my life… It had taken my parents several minutes to calm me down enough to explain that he would pull through and be alright.

My brother visited me in my room twice, though he had more freedom of movement than I did, he was also very limited in where and when he could go… in the end it made sense, it was a hospital, not downtown.

It had taken me both visits to convince him that the books were more worthwhile here over the endless hours of staring at the television screen… soon after I had heard from the doctors he started devouring book after book. both time he had visited though he seemed exhausted… not at all like the strong older brother I grew up with.

Today I was allowed to join my parents in my brother's room in the hospital. It was one the few places I was allowed to visit, though not without supervision… In fact, there was only one place I could be without supervision… even then one of the nurses would always be waiting outside the door.

Hisao's doctor, the head cardiologist, was a portly man, he lumbered about the room making his way to the desk as I was rolled inside by one of the nurses. There was fake enthusiasm about him that I was familiar with from my doctor, one I had cleared the first time. Our parents are already present, appearing to be dressed up, our mother quickly making her way around my brother's hospital bed to give me a hug.

"How are you doing?" she asked as she pulled away, it had been a few days since I had last seen my Parents last.

"I-I am doing a-alright" I reply, even managing a small smile despite how exhausted I have been feeling the doctor taping paper to his desk catches my attention

"I believe that you can return home; your heart is stronger now, and with some precautions, you should be fine." He said "we have all your medication sorted out. I'll give your father the prescription" he continues.

I can't help but feel happy for him , if not a little envious that he would be getting out before me. At this point I wasn't even sure why the doctors were holding me here, they continued to run tests

I am surprised though when he turns to me and also says I would be cleared from hospital as well… I fall back against the wheelchair somewhere between elation and relief, able to finally sleep in my own bed. meanwhile my father is holding what looks like a long thin paper… was that… my brother's medicine? I had thought the medication I was on had been much, but.

I watch Hisao get a hold of the paper, his eyes seem bulge before giving it to our mother.

"I am afraid it is the best we can do at this point." the doctor explained. "However, new medicine and practices are always being developed." he continued, "so do not be surprised to find that list starts to fade over the years."

I do not think it had the effect the doctor had intended as my brother slumps down further into his bed.

the doctor takes a deep breath, as if preparing a difficult part of the conversion… “I've spoken to your parents and we believe that it would be best for both you and your sister if you both transferred.”

I am not surprised with Hisao's reaction, he looks like he is ready to fight tooth and nail, if he weren't so exhausted. Evidently our father was expecting it as well, as he placed a firm hand on his shoulder. I had figured this out, also being told in no uncertain terms that returning would not be an option, I could only guess that the conversion had not come up for Hisao "Son, please listen to the doctor" he then gestures for the doctor to continue.

"The large issue is your school is an hour away from here, there is simply no way of guaranteeing that you will be able to get medical medical help should you need it next time, yet alone guarantee you survive, Hisao. Yamaku Academy is a school specialised in highschool students with special needs, such as yourself and your sister here… provided you look after yourselves, you should lead long healthy lives and will need the education. Many have graduated from Yamaku, and have gone on to do many amazing things. Including the author of that book series, you have grown so fond of Hisao. "

I couldn't help but giggle a little, knowing that I had started him on his science fiction crave. my brother had always been strongly associated with science and maths… I…. I guess I have yet to find my passion as I have always spent more time in hospital than at school.

I am still worried though, it is clear from his eyes that he wants to argue the change… would… would he have another...

Though much to my relief, Hisao brightens a little at hearing his favourite books were written by a graduate . He falls back into his bed, seemingly defeated and exhausted… whilst not the most popular, he was certainly social and a bit of a sports jock, if not leaning on the nerdy side of things. I had never developed into a social cercle, but he had a lot he was leaving behind. I had romer that he had even started to become somewhat popular with the girls.

"Most importantly though, the staff know how to work with you already, as they have a lot of experience, and that does not include the nursing staff. " The Doctor continues. "the boarding school is designed to provide a degree of independence, whilst keeping help nearby should it be needed" '

my brother does not seem convinced by this at all… if anything even more exhausted than before… though he seemed resigned to it. At least there wouldn't be any fighting at home. Mom and Dad both worked full time and spent very little time at home, thus homeschooling was out of the question as well. soon after the discussion petals down, and we were cleared from the hospital… replaced with a very awkward drive home. though gosh does feel good to finally be away from the hospital once again.

Hey there.
I haven't finished reading the story, but I've already encountered quite a lot of grammar mistakes. Would you please run a grammar check and fix them? Because they look very annoying. Thanks.
