I did a quick 2-3hour sketch of Emi Ibarazaki if anyone wants to check it out.
I was mostly unsure of what to do with the picture, resulting in some perspective issues.

Amazing picture, well done. :D
I must note, however, that Emi looks extraordinarily tired.
I think she's been trying too hard to keep watch on Hisao. She should leave the stalking to Kenji. :mrgreen:

I would like to know how you did your shading as the sheen on the hair and subtle shadows and things like that always give me trouble

Thanks for the kind responses everyone.

I use SAI, my most commonly used tools for coloring is the Airbrush, Brush, and Watercolor. I use a hard brush (#3) Brush with 100 Dilution and around 30 Blending/Persistance. Depending on the effect my I change the opacity alot. The tool is mostly to push colors around and to shade subtly. Switching between base and shadow to keep the effect right. I use Watercolor at high dilution, everything else at 50. This is mostly to smooth and blend color a bit. Also with a #3 hard brush. For the hair I just used the Airbrush and Brushed it with a very low opacity (like 8-12%) When I am finishing a drawing I reduce by as much as 4x (4000 to 1000) so that much detail isn't necessary.

It's not my best work though, but i'm glad I could help at least a little bit.

(edit: just so you know, brushes don't make the work, nothing beats practice and experimentation. Also analyzing other artists work and figuring out how they did what they did.)

Yea I love sharing, but then sometimes people get the wrong impression, and think that by having certain brushes you'll be better. :roll:

Best brushes are the ones you create yourself and have "honed". It took my months to work these brushes the way I want them, and they pretty much only suit my style of painting.

Thats why I love drawing digitally its a different skill set takes a different mental approach one more suited to how I think

And its a technique I've honed rather well
