I was thinking of Freddy's hand popping out of his chest or one of the aliens for Alien/Aliens/AvP and all the other versions. If someone does do that please don't hesitate to acredit the idea to me.

.png is a fairly new image format (ca. 1995), but there can be other reasons, e.g. you can configure your browser to open .png files with Quicktime or something.
