Katawa Poetry

Post by SpunkySix » Sat Jun 28, 2014 12:29 pm

So, recently it has come to my attention that a few of us here would be interested in or have already written poems about KS and the experiences, locations and characters that come along with it. I did a search, and apparently there isn't a general poetry topic yet, so... here it is!

Post whatever poems you have here. Just make sure they are on-topic and decently well edited with some degree of effort put in, as I am highly interested in the works others may have and would not like to see the topic to go down in flames. Other than that, have fun and get creative.

I've kicked things off with the poem that brought the idea for this topic to my immediate attention:

Runner on the Screen

I look at you and my heart melts,
Runner on the screen
Right here, yet so far-
Just a thin sheet of glass in-between
You brighten up my thoughts,
You lighten up my sleep,
Happy memories of you,
So many that I keep

I hear your voice when I'm thinking
About the stuff we'd do
And I wonder if you'd like me
If I ever got a chance

to meet you...
"Spunky at his Spunkyest/Spunkiest"
"Tissues to the extreme!"

Here's the piece Hisao wrote for Lilly in 'After The Dream', which is post-Lilly-neutral-end.
He wrote it in traditional haiku on parchment, to be given to her after his death:

star-crossed, we broke faith
the winter world between us
see me in summer

elegant fingers
trace the north sea’s wistful road
read my autumn scroll

It directs her to read the plaque on his grave, designed by Rin Tezuka.

Are you going to link existing pieces in your OP?

If you'd like. Otherwise, I figured the owners could copy/paste them here.

The closest thing to KS poetry I have is the full version of the poem in Blossom, the one Suzu wrote. I guess that's better than nothing though, so here it is. Keeping it in a pastebin because I've submitted it as part of an exam portfolio, which may still be in the marking process, so I want to avoid any possible plagiarism confusion.

Well, I have two pieces that might count as poetry:

Katawa Shoujo - Pentameter Style and Katawa General.

Does Emi's running mantra from Developments count? I suppose it might:

air . . . wind . . . ground . . . track . . . . . . . . .
. . . will . . . not . . . hold . . . back . . . . . .
. . . . . . hear . . . smell . . . feel . . . see . . .
. . . . . . . . . set . . . these . . . thoughts . . . free
wind . . . air . . . track . . . ground . . . . . . . . .
. . . one . . . more . . . time . . . round . . . . . .
. . . . . . time . . . space . . . form . . . flight . . .
. . . . . . . . . all . . . shall . . . be . . . light
Rin is orthogonal to everything.
Stuff I've written: Developments, a continuation of Lilly's (bad? neutral?) ending - COMPLETE!

Yes, and it's awesome.

I have a couple more. Fair warning, the first one is evil and should not be read by youngins or pregnant women. Or young pregnant women. Or probably anybody, really. Have I mentioned that I'm a terrible person, lately?

Katawa Krazy

I've done it.

I've finally done it.

The Deed has been done.
The struggle is over,
The day has been Won.

There's blood on the roof,
blood on the chair,
blood from her legs,
In the twintails in her hair.
blood on the Saw-
Hers and her friend's,
Like the Credits never rolled,

It never did end.

They both scream out loud
stumps Flailing all around
Begging for freedom (i had to tie them down.)

But they can't leave yet-
we haven't had lunch,
Fresh limbs in pairs, and
Bones by the bunch

We'll be like this, I'll stay with my girls
Right now they're bleeding out but even after they'll mean the world;
Driven by love, passion; just a touch of pain,
I'm not thinking straight but there's so much to gain

They'll say that I'm evil,
I might be, I'm not sure...

But one thing's for certain,

I did it for her.

Hold the Pillow

Hold the pillow, hold it tight
Wrapped up so warm on this cold winter's night
So soft it is in your arms, as if you are immune to harm
And there she is, her eyes alight
You know she's with you on this cold winter's night
Happy and pretty and kind as can be,
You're perfect for each other, it's plain to see
except of course, she doesnt exist
it could never be, not like this
so
hold the pillow, hold it tight
alone, uncertain on this cold winters night

I actually wrote that second one on the night that I finished my first route. Rough sleep, after that one.

Mutou's Second Wife

Post by brythain » Sun Jun 29, 2014 3:43 am

Speaking of winter, SS:
Mutou sits with his whisky, watching his wife sleep...

i am the hawk
she is the snow
and I do not
know where to go

her white hair coils
a waterfall
i'm lost and drowned
but not at all

her arms are long
the buds are bright
that lead me home
on winter's night

Hokay, not exactly sure if this little number fulfills the requirement of "[...] the experiences, locations and characters that come along with [KS]", but after reading SpunkySix's masterful Runner on the Screen, I decided to give poetry a shot.

While the subject matter might be outside the requirements of the "letter of thread" per say, I've tried to attempt a style I never used in school - a Spenserian sonnet in the heptametric meter.

The Dream Was O'er

The dream was o'er, the route's been tread, the boy has passed his trial.
And here I sit, behind the pane, as tears my eyes did peal.
Why do I sit and stew and gnash, and fight with all denial
Of what this winding prose within my mind dare deign reveal?

Through other life, through fiction's lens, oh how my heart did feel
For highland's blind maiden, sweet Satou lass of Inverness!
My mind rebukes: "You childish fool! Fiction can ne'r be real!
Come back to Earth! Reality calls! She shall never be missed!"

Confused and hurt, I purge myself of all false hope and bliss
And I laid down my weary head and fade to fitful sleep.
A white cane's tap. A hand in hair. Lips pressed on neck to kiss.
A softly spoken vow that her story I'll ever keep.

She reaches down, embraces me, then fades to night's dark dome.
"Know this, my friend - in you, I'll be. You'll never be alone."
Tha gaol agam ort, Lilly. Slàinte mhor a h-uile là a chi 's nach fhaic.

Glad you like it! With the way this fandom is, I was pretty surprised that we didn't have a topic like this yet.

As for getting checked, I don't think that will be necessary. I'm just holding a healthy adolescent blood drive, after all.

Here's some pretty well done pieces from DA:

Shall I compare thee to, by KNO-108

Shall I compare thee to a burning fire?
You are very passionate, but also shy.
As a child you were in a red hot pyre,
You saw your life flash by your eye.

You then were scarred for all to see.
All the stares were too much for you to take,
So you locked up your heart with an unturnable key.
And on your birthday your mind would break.

When you entered high school, you made a friend,
She was always very motherly and nice.
She treated you like a daughter, and you wanted that to end.
You kept that secret in your heart, like a cold block of ice.

Then you met me, who wanted to set you free.
I filled your heart with love, and finally turned the key.

Seize the Day, by righthand-cat

A white canvas welcomes her
Beckoning for her creativity to outpour
Paint of all colors stained on her romper
All presences in the room she chose to ignore
She reaches down and takes her paintbrush
It drips of bright blue, she uses for the first mark
Moving in all directions, but no rush
She overtakes the canvas, her eyes filled with a spark

Months ago dandelions covered the field
A quiet sight with yellow splashed about the green
White tuffs float about now, tiny brown seeds revealed
She would spread her tiny arms wide, and her world perfectly serene
Live not in the future, live not in the past
Live in the present, realize you're alive at last

A Fulfilling Phrase, by MaxwellSmaart

There are a thousand thoughts
Flying through my mind
At a million miles a minute.

I hate seeing you upset
But it’s difficult to help.
Is it pride? Are you just that stubborn?
Or you don’t trust me?

…Who do you trust?

I don’t think you’ll ever understand
How much I care about you.
Maybe it’s love—
I’m too scared to consider or
Perhaps I’m in denial.

They’re still flying,
A million miles a minute.
Instead,

“Thank you.”

For Rin Tezuka

Roses are red
But when I think of red
I don't think of the red
we think of when we think of red
I think of the red
that is on your head
and elsewhere when in bed

Red seeks redress
Orange is a tangerine
Yellow a submarine
Green is leaflets
Blue is butterflies
Indignation cut short
Violently reduced

Violets are blue
But when I think of blue
I don't think of violet
I think of ultraviolet light
a colour in the sky
but not the sky more like
a dandelion field's delight

Your palette is in my voice
Your taste is in my palate
Without meaning to you have disarmed me
Disarmed you have given me meaning
Lying there more real than truth
