Was using FGE which i developed between march and september last year, but i'm now using a slightly more updated version to go with some of the things in this game the old one couldn't handle. though it's not a very fancy game engine, just does rendering and handles sound, 3d sound and mouse and keyboard input. it's only being used for two other games (excluding this one). for the rest we'll probably move up to using something more commercially known, like unity3d or the vicious engine, but this one i made is good enough for this game so i'll just keep using it for now :)

Seems cool so far, really looking forward to the finished product. Keep up the awesome work, and don't slow the pace!

Thanks, though the pace is getting slowed a little to make more time for the commercial games. but no worries, it will get done eventually :)

Okay, without meaning to double post, I shall now put here an update :D Though there's not much new to see really. I might have said this before, but the title screen and the story board for the first two chapters of the game are actually complete. I didn't post up any images of the title screen before since I wanted to only put it up along with some gameplay footage too, but it seems making this game is taking alot longer than I wanted it to :? Did a little work on Hanako's room (only spent about an hour on it) so all there is so far is a bed, wardrobe and a door. I might put up a vid once the intro scene is done, 'cause the title screen on its own isn't really worth posting a video of. So there you have it, it's been over a month and only a small room with a few details has been made. Anyway, here are screens of the new title screen (in the game itself, it's slightly animated) and Hanako's room so far in the model editor:

Sorry about the crappy quality of the room, it'll get bigger, but the textures will stay the same unless I get someone who's good at doing textures :D Also, this is just a screen from within the model editor, it will actually look much better when it gets rendered in the game.

I got my hands full with my training in web development, being director of the company's 2nd music project and two commercial titles at the moment. In my free time I do a little gaming ('cause I'll go mad if I carry on working on this after doing game dev and studying for a whole week  ). I don't know how soon, but I hope to post here again soon.

Any chance you could give us a status update? It's been a little less than a month now since you last posted. If you're really busy with other projects right now, I understand, but I would appreciate it if you could let us know if that's the case. Thanks :)

Hi, you're quite right, it's been a busy month. I had a little discussion about the progress on this game with Maakasu_Taihaku a few days ago, so I'll just sort of repeat that here: "It has, surprisingly, made a ton of progress since, but at the same time none of it is visible progress sadly. The company has disband, leaving me as the only active member. Since I was the original founder, I'm just basically back where I started. Being just human, I can't handle the workload on my own, so I've put all work relating the company on hold and gone out searching for a real job, and I've managed to get a decent one too, luckily. Having a job and earning money now in order to survive is a little wiser than trying to restart a dying business. And either way, I don't have time for anything other than work anymore either. But all this doesn't mean I'm giving up, not just on this game, but on the entire company in general. I will be using whatever is left of my monthly income at my current job to help get this company back on its feet. Hanako Dash was fun to design, program, and obviously to play :) and WILL be the first title this company will release (and as a free game too, obviously). On the brighter side, I no longer have any obligations or major responsibilities (other than getting to work and back everyday), so when I have free time and I'm up to it, I will continue working on the game. If I get tired of working on it, I'll work on one of the other games until I get tired of them, then move back to this one :) It's bound to get done eventually." (Literally copied and pasted that  )

I know all that sounds like a very neat excuse and a long sappy story on why I'm not working on it, but I actually DO want to work on it, there's just no time and not enough people helping out for it to get anywhere fast enough. So until either I get some free time or some people willing to help out in the graphics department, it'll probably stay like this. But it's definitely NOT dead :D just on hold until free time is available once more.

So to answer your question: no, I'm not busy with other projects, I'm at work all day and just want to relax a little on the weekends. Once things settle down a little here, I'll be able to sort out when and when not I'll have free time and what I'm able to and how much I'm able to get done in that time. So if you were looking forward to this game before, continue to look forward to it, because it WILL get done. :D

Basically, an exciting new open-source project that'll be taking over this one  For now, it's still in the early stages of engine development, but unlike Hanako Dash, this game will be getting my constant attention and WILL be updated far more frequently than before *crosses fingers*. There are already four and a half (you'll see on the site what I mean by "a half") open-source releases of the engine. Sadly, there's not much playable yet, but for those of you who want something to play, you can download the old Hanako Dash from the link above too.

Just some notes on the old release: it lags sometimes, the engine for that one was screwed and it took alot for me to get it working again, JUST so that I don't leave here without giving much again :( Also, be sure to read the post in the link PROPERLY and any and all ReadMe files included in any of the downloads on that page. They'll help if you're having problems getting things started.

But anyways, check out the link, sign up, introduce yourself and take a look around. I'll be very active on that site at first, so you can expect ALOT of feedback from me at this stage :)

Enjoy! :D

I usually welcome any kind of help, but right now it's just plain hardcore coding. Things have also been going a little slow as of late with my workload, but I'll be on leave soon! :D Some good news is that this engine will probably end up being compatible with Windows, Linux, Android and even the PSP (for those who are wondering... no, you won't need CFW to play it). And just so you know too, Hanako Dash isn't dead, it just has a different name :) I still plan on remaking it with this engine once it's done.

The only thing I'm starting to feel as of late is that this whole thing's been taking alot longer than intended and people are quickly losing interest. :( Oh well, I'll keep going anyways and just post here again when I have something new to show. Thanks again to all who have shown interest and helped in the past.

Please don't quit, I really want to play this.

What software do you use to model the levels/characters? Maya/Blender?
