Is Rin's route worth?

Post by LemonPirate »

Okay after a year and a half of playing I feel as if I'm a veteran Katawa Shoujoist (if that's a thing). I've played everybody's route so far (Emi and Hanako being equally my favs) however for some reason the only persons route I haven't followed yet is Rins. I have tried to get into her story and got about half way through act 2 when I stopped (I think I just didn't have the time). Anyway I've come to this glorious forum to ask if it is really worth going back and playing through for Rin's story. Is it good, is it bad, length in comparison and any personal opinions. That kind of thing.
Thanks guys :D

It seems Rin's route has two separate outcomes, dependant on who reads it.
It's like Marmite, it seems. You either love it or hate it.
Personally, I found the route to be straight up confusing, I found Rin's lack of apparent emotion somewhat annoying, and I prefer Emi anyway.
That being said, I'd say a large proportion of the KS fanbase prefer Rin. It's down to your own life, it seems, and if you can identify with her.

But to answer your question, I'd say go for it! there's no point in leaving the game unfinished ;)
Like stupid, silly doodles with no point? You've come to the right place, friend :^)
I also occasionally write oneshots. Why not have a skimread?

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. I guess your right, its just I don't want to have to drag myself through it. Rather not have KS give me a foul taste in the mouth because either its to confusing or I just cant relate to Rin. Its also one of those things where I have to be prepared to start a playthrough, these things are like 20hrs long so yeah there's that, plus being a final-year student is time consuming enough as it is, don't really want to be wasting my time on something I wont enjoy. Still, thanks for the advice Munchenhausen :D

20 hours? Wow. I can play through a KS story in like, 2 or 3 hours.

Anyway, Rin's story was my second least favorite story. Not for any particular reason, other than Hanako's, Lilly's and Emi's were all better IMO (and Shizune's was less so - due to LACK OF DECISIONS!). It is very confusing on your first playthrough, and very much like Rin's character, you will be left not knowing what the hell is going on and what the proper thing to do is, which in a way is what it would be like if you knew Rin in real life as she throws social norms and rules out the window.

I'd say every story is worth at least two playthroughs (one for bad and one for good) or one playthrough and just re-load a save to get the different ending.

Oddly enough, the moment I stopped trying to make sense of Rin, rationally, was the point where I started to understand what she was about.

Personally, as long as they give something enough of a chance, I would not think less of anyone for bailing out if they just don't find the thing interesting enough. That said, I think Rin's story is worth reading through, if you can find the time. But it's your call.

Go for it. Even if you don't like it, you can at least say you played through it all.

Absolutely. If nothing else, it will give you a more fully-rounded position from which to critique why her route did not interest you.
I love the interpretation of Pac-Man where he's a just a lowly worker retrieving golf balls left all over the course by the rich masters and the ghosts are all previous workers who got conked on the head and killed by incoming golf balls in the line of duty.

Given the options of "playing Rin's route" and "not playing Rin's route," it's absolutely inconceivable to me that anyone would choose the latter.

Okay, so you guys (or gals as the case may be) have convinced me to start Rin's route (I'm 2hrs in atm) and honestly so far I'm enjoying (confused, but enjoying it nonetheless). Thanks for the information and motivation everybody :D

Rin's route give a very different perspective on a lot of issues that are subtext in the other routes -- so absolutely play it.

And to get the whole route you've got to go through it several times, making different decisions each time.

Yes, it's worth it.

Seeing her from Emi's route, I'd have to guess yes, but I've never actually seen it.

I'd say yes, but that's just me. Rin tends to be quite divisive.

By the way, I absolutely adore the picture of Rin you use in your posts. Is it from her route?

It's very worth it if you're patient - patient with Rin AND patient with Hisao. Some of the scenery in Rin's route is absolutely beautiful as well.
