Health is precisely the reason I couldn't possibly go for Emi as the first route, since starting the route requires a pretty stupid decision, health-wise. Not risking my heart just to try to catch up to someone who is 50x more fit than I am is a no-brainer.
Well, there was a mix of trying to be healthy and common VN sense. You know, you definitely gonna get this girl's route, when you will try to show off.
Btw, Hisao decides that he will run nevertheless. If I'd suffer heart attack during run, I'd be batshit scared. And if I didn't, I'd make myself up by additional running with that cutie. And possibly by inviting her on a date. Or at least at a lunch together, where together is two of us, sorry Rin.

I went in assuming I was going to eventually hook up with each of the girls, so played with that goal in mind. Naturally I ended up with Emi to start. The rest took some consultation of the walk through to put me on the right tracks.
And yeah, racing Emi would have been a bad idea in RL, but using VN logic, it seemed the best way to get closer to her. So...

In the heat of the moment I forgot about my (Hisao's) condition and was just having fun. I chased her because well in hindsight I don;t know it just seemed like the right option at the time.

I was never thinking of hooking up with every girl, imagine that.
KS was actually my second VN experience, my first one being the awesome and badass Junai Monogatari. So I was quite confused and saved a lot, especially on the first day (which wasn't by any means necessary). Since Junai Monogatari allows pursuing multiple girls at once, I was especially confused on a part of choosing a route. I didn't understand that playing the game as it comes (even if it's manly picnic) is the best way to familiarize yourself with it.

Eh, I don't care about "common VN sense". Moronic recklessness doesn't stop being moronic recklessness just because it happens in a VN.

Yes, but that's a difference between putting your health in danger IRL and in an any kind of game. It's like a difference between a steel knife and a lump of cottonwool.

Of course. It's just that if I'm immersed in a work of interactive fiction, I try to make decisions that make some sense to me - especially on a first playthrough. And overall, KS had me surprisingly immersed.

I went after Shizune's arc first because I really liked the character (and with my lack of experience with VN's, I thought her route was mandatory). Her route was also the only route I did blind.

That is an awful way to ruin a VN.

Greetings.
First post on these forums, as I just discovered this game a few days ago. Heck, I only discovered this genre a few weeks ago thanks to stumbling across The Asenheim Project website.
As with others on this thread, I went into the game without any idea which direction to go first, so I went with whatever I felt like doing at the time. I wound up with Emi, and enjoyed her path immensely. However, once I had gotten a feel for the game, I absolutely knew that the first girl i would choose to pursue would be Rin, so that's how I voted in the poll.
Still processing this game's awesomeness. A bit overwhelming, on several levels.
Rin is orthogonal to everything.
Stuff I've written:
Developments, a continuation of Lilly's (bad? neutral?) ending - COMPLETE!

Well it's not like I purposely spoiled myself, but I looked up a flowchart after getting Shizune's route twice :/

Lilly played KS. She did all the routes blind. She liked the soundtrack....
Fist of the North Star is a strange movie ._.

On walkthroughs and related stuff, as a working adult, I find that I have less time for games. (Not that I did gaming 24 hours straight even as a student. One word: Mum.) Also, I hated the idea of feeling lost more than anything else. In fact, after Baldur's Gate 2 where I had to backtrack extensively due to an event, I resolve to go through every RPG I would play in the future with a guide in hand. (Can't really recall what the event was. MOST likely to be the part with Yoshimo.)
Of course, I understand some people like to figure out stuff when they play games. It's fine, just not my style.
