Remove Adult Content?

I've been reading this VN for a while and really enjoying that. I read about it on Hardcore Gaming 101 and thought the art and music and subject matter is awesome. I was reading Emi's route with my sister and had the "no adult content" box checked. We're more than old enough to be talking about and reading about this sort of thing, but it was really a shock when we got a full frontal nude after the "aquarium" scene. That really is adult content. I turned the game off right away. I'd rather not have seen it, but I feel worse about my sister.

I'm certainly not angry at the creators for including nudity in this game, but it would be nice if a little disclaimer was added to that check box, or if it actually did skip all the adult content. I don't feel entitled to anything, of course. I just wish I knew beforehand.

Thanks for your time, and for putting so much love into this beautiful game. Even if I can't play the rest I'll definitely be listening to the soundtrack.

The thing is that the protection only disables the CG's, whereas the nude sprites remain unchanged. Yes, they should've mentioned that, but what can we do?

You're missing important parts of the story, anyway =P The text that comes with the scenes is important later or just freaking hilarious xD

Well first, I agree with you on the surface; I was a little surprised that the "Disable adult content" option does not remove some instances of topless sprites appearing. The manner in which adult content scenes are skipped is pretty silly too (with the chinchillas and grilled vegetables and such). All in all, I feel like the developers put very little effort into the feature, and treated it as more a joke or even a subtle jab at over-concerned players.

On the other hand, if your sister and you are "more than old enough to be talking about and reading about this sort of thing", then I don't see why seeing a pair of anime breasts is shocking enough that you had to immediately shut off the game and preclude yourself from finishing it. It's difficult to get a good read on the situation not knowing your ages, your relationship, etc., but it seems like you could have just said "Huh, I guess they didn't do a very good job of censorship there, huh?", laughed it off, and kept reading. And even if your sister absolutely cannot deal with such content, couldn't you just read it without her?

Im more worried about you thinking of sexuality as something offensive.

This game has generated a lot of controversy due to it's adult content; its also a visual novel about dating involving some dating sims facts, its due to have adult content at some point. There really is no excuse about that, if you downloaded it and were reading it, its because you agreed with its content, and if you didnt want your sister to look at it you shoudldnt have her reading it next to you in the first place, but rather just tell her how the story ended or something.

Personally i look at KS' adult content as a canon of all the story arcs, its not an act of porn but one of pure and inocent (*Emi's spoiler*except the anal part of Emi's arc, lol) love between two teenagers who look to consummate their feelings for each other, its not a filthy act of fornicating, its the art of giving a love story (a visual one) a tender touch that lets you know the characters got so much bonded to each other, the future for them will be all well.

And yeah, what has been stated a lot of times is that many (not all of them of course) of the sex scenes the game has are definite and would break the continuoum of it if removed. Think of removing the adult content as removing all hints and evidences of Hisa's heart attack, like if you were to begin the story at Yamaku and you have no idea why is the guy in there in the first place, nor why does he tend to critizice everyone's disabilities, X Y Z and all other stuff.

I ran into the same problem myself. Our computer is in the lounge and I was playing Hanako's route and I could understand where it was heading so I turned Adult Content off (my mum was in the room) and then just to be sure when my mum left the room for a couple minutes I skipped to make sure there was no nudity...
Thank god I did that instead of wandering blindly into an argument about "WHY ARE YOU PLAYING THIS GAME BLAH BLAH BLAH"
I was kind of confused with the lack of a warning about nude sprites.

Yes, this is more of a situation that I think is a legitimate problem caused by the lack of censorship of topless sprites; someone who doesn't know anything about the game looking over at your screen, seeing nudity, and causing trouble. I feel like anyone who is actually reading the game, and understands the context in which the nudity is occurring, shouldn't have any problem with it.

You guys know me. And you know I could argue until we're all blue in the face that the adult content, while certainly pivotal, wasn't necessary and could have been redacted.

But I'm not going to get into that argument, because I think it was fairly clear what we were getting into: a game that has many complex layers to it, including sexual content.

If you thought either that they were only going to wrestle around in their clothes, or you thought that they'd get married and then have sex, you do not understand the world, either that we live in, or that Hisao lives in.

The West is no longer in the Victorian era - and thank God for it. The real world has sex in it. There's no sense hiding it as an adult. And like the game of Katawa Shoujo, the sex which happens is not of the most wholesome nature. That is a sad fact. Not every couple that has sex will be a man and his married wife. And sex is scarred in the modern world by things like divorce, abortion, abandonment, contraception, and other things. (Well, it's always had these scars, but I feel like they're more prominent these days.)

But like Hanako, it's still beautiful. In their own clumsy, misguided way, boys and girls, and men and women, really are trying to get and stay close to each other through the act. Many are trying to show their commitment and love to one another. And never mind the real possibility of creating life in the womb. That is always a wonderful thing.

The thing about this game is... you've got to see the beauty through the scars. You can still lament the scars and wish they were not there. And you certainly don't have to get any scars yourself, metaphorically or literally.

But if you've got to be old enough, and you've got to take what happens with a grain of salt. This is not the way the world is supposed to be. That's not what the authors intended to portray. They wanted to present a story. A story people can relate to. It's not supposed to be perfect. And it's not supposed to be a catechesis on how to be a good person.

But through the weaknesses of the characters and the choices you make, you see overarching lessons. You take a mental note of those, and you digest them. Then you come here and share what the result is.

Taken with that grain of salt, even the most devout (not scrupulous - that is, not OCD about following the rules without really understanding their purpose - but really genuine) Christians can find something true, good, and beautiful about it.

Nudity is not adult content. You get that in soap commercials on prime time TV and noone complains.
The adult content filter only skips explicit sexual content.

I think the issue isn't whether adult content is good or bad. It's that the check box option doesn't do what it claims to do: namely, remove the adult content.

For whatever reason, the general public thinks of titties as adult content.

So yeah.

I don't believe that the nude human body should be counted as adult content, but you know, a heads up for the teenager with his parents in the room.

Hmm I think more could have been done about this issue. They could have simply written a script with a database of all the "topless" sprites and when a sprite matching the topless sprite database is detected, intercept it and replace it with the sprite missing png image. But I view it as a joke. I remember going into Emi's Shed Scene and seeing the CG replaced by some sort of fruit. XD

And that matters to an international project how?

don't you guys get it?

The option doesn't "remove" adult content. It only disables it.
