Highly possible.

Zarys, I've noticed you have an ongoing problem with the gender of the girls. So I have to ask, do you just have the most bizarrely specialized form of dyslexia ever?

Maybe chess just reminds her of her favorite pastime: Tile-hopping.

Well sure, but the tile hopping just reminds her of his her passion. Magical swapping.

I'll do that if i don't have my Mp3 player and need a distraction. I've done it ever since i was a kid, and kind of chuckled when Hanako talked about it.

Well.. I didn't have an mp3 player growing up.
What Hisao says during that part really hit me. "How lonely does one have to come up with a game like this". It got me wondering... How lonely I really was back when I was kid, and how lonely I still am now?

I'm sorry, but I think that being a loner is different from being lonely.
Being a loner can be good, it is generally an option. Being lonely, normally goes hand-in-hand with being miserable.

There is a subtle difference in English between the word "loner" and "lonely" that I don't understand ?

Well im no expert on english but typically a loner is someone who prefers to be alone and being lonely means that you are alone willing or not, like having no friends or family to be with and spend time with.

The definitions are generally defined as a loner being someone who prefers to be alone, while lonely is a negative feeling from being without other humans.

A loner often has the connotation of being somewhat traumatized or dark as well.

I don't think so. Due to her trauma and psychological disabilities she is lonely.
Perhaps she wants to get along with people, but fear, anxiety and a variety of others reasons make her unable to do so.
Or perhaps so wants to be a loner because of those same reasons, but even then, she can't connect to anybody, and it clearly affects her.

She is both a loner, and lonely. In most horrible kind of way.

Hanako is a loner as a defense mechanism, to avoid being hurt. However, while she outright says that she doesn't like people, it's quite clear that that's not entirely true, and she actually craves companionship deeply.

Therefore, a lonely loner.
