Doctors Without Borders fundraising for Katawa Shoujo

Post by Merlyn_LeRoy » Sat Feb 04, 2012 11:42 pm

Suriko has OK'd this fundraiser, patterned after other reddit.com fundraising efforts:

I'd donate if I had money. I'm currently working a 42 hour 7 day week with no pay. =/ On the bright side, I'm on the forums while at work.

It's a great idea though, so you have my moral/ethical support.

Awesome. I'd chip in if I had spare money right now, but my dentist is going to end up taking it all and then some.

I know of doctors without boarders and they are both legit and a very good foundation. This firstgiving.com place though, I have not heard of before. Any confirmation the website collecting the money is safe and legitimate before I give them money? Much less important, Suriko gave the thumbs up for an independent fundraising effort with a Katawa Shoujo theme you say? Confirmation from Suriko if possible?
Sorry for my grammar and spelling. I am not very good at those...

Atheists on reddit raised over $200,000 for Doctors Without Borders using this firstgiving URL:
http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/r ... m/ratheism
That made the papers:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/s ... 52146680/1
http://in.reuters.com/article/2011/12/0 ... HT20111209
http://www.montrealgazette.com/technolo ... story.html

So yeah, firstgiving.com is legit.
Suriko can confirm, and I've asked if this topic can be stickied.

Doctors Without Borders is indeed a worthy cause, and all the volunteers there have my highest respect!

@Suriko: What made you change your mind after all this time of not endorsing any single charity?

KS isn't endorsing it; I make a firstgiving.com page and asked Suriko if it was ok. The page says it isn't affiliated with KS.

I had a look at the TOS there, and I guess I'd rather donate directly to a charity.
That website collects more than 5% of the amount donated in fees. And no, that's without the credit card fee, which comes on top.
