It's her life, it's her dad, she obviously grieved plenty enough, not to mention that here entire theme is based around moving on and doing better.

Respect is one thing, and she has plenty of it for her dad - trivial, superficial nonsense out of tradition for tradition's sake is another thing entirely.

She's obviously not a puritan but she has heart where it actually matters. It's her stuff and she handles it her way. She remembers her dad well more than enough and isn't about to stop living just because he did.

I don't think so at all. I think you are looking far too seriously at this.

It's not a disrespectful thing to do at all, the other comments have already expressed that Emi's father would only want her happiness. Her opening up and showing Hisao her fathers grave and opening up to him is a sign that Emi wants to be closer and to love him more. Them making love is letting their emotions and love for eachother be known in a physical form, the ultimate way to express your feelings for a new couple and to show how far you are willing go for a certain someone usually is sexual intercourse. For most people, it is one of the major steps before you truely are together and not just seeing eachother.

Whether she made love with Hisao on the anniversary of her fathers death, or her parents anniversary, or any day.. it doesn't matter. If it was offensive or in bad taste on that day, it'd be just as offensive or in bad taste any other day.

Hahaha, yes! I thought exactly the same thing! Getting fucked by your boyfriend is kind of fucked up (lulz) on the same day as the anniversary of her father's death, the loss of her legs, AND just recently visiting his grave. They should've just done it on top of his gravestone. At least he'd get in on some of the action! HA!
