Wait, so I just read this and something clicked.

Kenji:"If I were going to kill someone, I´d do it by throwing them of the roof and making it look like an accident." So did Kenji murder us in the death ending?

In think in that case it was actually an accident. As both Kenji and Hisao were a little shit-faced

maybe that was the plan all along! drunk people can still commit murder... Hisao was a feminist spy. It had to be done.

"Damn, man, you have failed me. Failed me for the last time. Jerk." And commence his plan to get away with murder. But it's a bit conflicting with his "This brotherly bond is what keeps me going in these dark times." a few lines later :/ Kenji is an enigma. A crazy as hell enigma with serious mental issues brought on by sex with the cute librarian.

A question to the artists:
I've seen those character "timelines" which show how each heroine's design evolved over the years. They have names next to the designs, but my question is, how "My own work!" are those designs? Is weee technically the "Hanako Artist" and Raide the "Lilly Artist"? I mean I assume that they didn't draw all sprites of a heroine on their own, but did one person give the reference implementation and everyone else agreed to adhere to that specific design, or was the design itself a collaborative effort until everyone agreed "Yeah, I can do that!"?

Your assumption is wrong, sort of. There's nothing technical about the character artists' positions, each of them really did design and draw 100% of the sprites of his or her heroine and the side characters they were responsible for. In some cases colouring was assisted or done by different artist, and there's retouching all around, so the final sprite sets aren't completely made by a single person even if the crucial part (linework) is. Compare to the route writers, it's a somewhat similar thing.

How many times has KS been downloaded to date?

We don't know. Aside from the fact that KS can be freely distributed (making knowing that number impossible), we don't track even the download numbers from our own server. They are pretty high though, of the order of hundreds of thousands.

Thank you Aura. I have another question. Who (if only one) did Rin's paintings? I'm especially curious. Sorry, I don't know if somebody's already asked

I remember reading something on the trivia page for KS on TVTropes that I realized was never touched/mentioned in the full VN. An early draft or something mentioned Shizune could read lips, was this dropped or just never had a good point to be brought up in the VN?

I could be wrong, but the first scene in Act Four of Shizune's route implies that she can read lips, because she tells Hisao that she "saw what [they] were saying" when they were talking on the rooftop.

Unless Hisao and Misha were using sign language to communicate with each other, which would be dumb, but wouldn't be totally out of the question since they're used to talking with Shizune around and signing everything while they talk out loud, so it could be a habit.

Sorry if any of this has been asked before, I did some digging in the thread but, yea... This thing is huge by now and either I'm horrible at keywords or the answer's really not in there (Am leaning towards the former).

1) Searching the thread, I saw that none of the devs are professional programmers, but what about the writers? Do any of you do this for a living? Or have you considered doing it for a living seeing how well the game has turned out and has been received?

2) I read that the game took 5 years to develop, but I believe this was basically done in your spare time, so what I was wondering is how many hours of work (approximately, of course) have gone into this?

3) Were you ever considering monetizing the game instead of releasing it for free? If so, why did you end up releasing it for free in the end?

4) I found the "about" and "staff" sections of the official page very interesting to read, especially the rough outline it gives of the game's development history. It sounds like ideas were all over the place: "For reasons we will never know, someone's genius idea of actually realizing RAITA's idea of the game caught on like wildfire and soon suggestions ranging from tender love stories to depraved sex fantasies were running amok in the thread". What I was wondering is: Was it hard to decide and agree on a "tone" (not sure if this is the right word here) for the game?
