If something like that was provided, I'd totally like, put in my own voices for some of the male characters, since I have aspirations to be a voice actor some day, and it would make good practice. :P
Not happening. The license we use (CC-BY-NC-ND) specifically prohibits it.

With regards to the topic, there have been bits and bobs from development posted on IRC from time to time (quite a bit was shown about a week back). That's about as far as we'll probably go, though. We may show some sketches or old scenes/cut scenes in the future, but that's undetermined.

(EDIT BY SILENTCOOK: Goddammit Suriko, you ninja'd me.)

Stuff like this makes me sad that I don't can't keep the IRC open 24/7. Is there any chance we might see these kinds of things in a more permanent form?

Well, have you heard of when games are in 'beta'? Alpha is the stage of testing that comes before beta. The alpha build of KS is an early, incomplete version of the game. It contains a lot of content and writing that's been changed.

An alpha build is a version of the game that's been "completed" (meaning no new creative content is being added), but is still in the process of testing by the development team itself. It basically goes like this:

- Development Build (plot is still being written, art is still being added and so on)
- Alpha Build (direction and art is finished, but development team is still testing it)
- Beta Build (development team has finished testing, but external beta testers are still testing it)
- Release Build (beta testers have finished testing it and the game is released to the public)

There isn't much point in playing the alpha build for people not involved with the testing process. It's less refined than the definite version will be and most likely the differences won't be staggering enough to make it an interesting play for people who've gone through the final build. (it's basically the final build with more bugs/spelling or grammar errors/dialogue inconsistencies and so forth)

Would this make Grid1 a development build? Because it's worlds away from what we have now.

Yes, Grid1 would be a very early development build. Not an alpha build, since 4LS never considered testing and releasing that incarnation of the game.

Earlier than Grid1 there is this:

http://66.90.118.7/z-s/Katawa_Shojo_Blitz_1_Scenes.zip

Unfortunately, the link is no longer available. But if somebody could track it down somehow, it would be interesting.
While we are here discussing, Hanako is somewhere hopping from dark to darker tiles. Alone.

I was playing Grid1 a while ago, and noticed that Hanako had a habit of "crabwalking" during it. Obviously that's due to the whole burnscar complex, but just last night I realized something.

Crabwalk
Crab
Cancer the Crab
Cancer in the Western Zodiac
Characteristics of people born under Cancer
Hanako's birthday

Google it. It may or may not blow your mind, but I feel almost as if we lost something valuable here.

Download this. Play it.

It's as close to an "alpha build" as you'll ever see for this game.
Huh. This is something interesting.

And now you know why the devs never released that build.
