Game-oriented VN introduction GO!

Battle Goddess VERITA is an extremely well made RPG game/VN. While the story does not quite shine (As do many VNs with gameplay) and that the game is 4th of its series, its style and execution is refreshing enough that a dungeon crawler hater like me actually enjoys it (Rare, and still will never love 3D dungeon crawlers). Time wise its also pretty realistic - epic/legendary events happen over the span of years or even hundreds of years, and your main characters consists of people with either immortal bodies or extremely long lives.

You also switch around between sub characters and not just the main MCs (There's two) following the storyline, and the sneak-around-guards mini game is quite cool. There's even a fishing mini game! That's something you don't usually see in VNs alright.

There's not a whole lot of VNs I'd recommend to people. The only ones I can think of besides Katawa Shoujo are Ever 17, Clannad, Symphonic Rain, and Yume Miru Kusuri and probably Steins; Gate when it comes out. (the 3 later ones mostly because of fantastic art and / or music while the first two are largely story dependent yet still my favourites)

My god. Just have to say that "don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story" is absolutely amazing. I definitely was not expecting it to be this good. I think I mentioned this elsewhere on these forums, but prejudice is a very personal topic to me. (Which is what drew me to Katawa Shoujo, since I enjoyed seeing how they dealt with their disabilities.) But homosexuality is even more personal to me. This game is amazing and thank you SO much for recommending it. It made me mad, it made me happy, it made me sad, and it truly warmed my heart. Tomorrow night I will play through it a second time and make a few different choices, and see how things go. But for now, I must be getting to bed.

Also, Akira and Nolan...so adorable.

I was really really good until the last two chapters or so, I thought. The reveal felt under-baked and other things unfinished or ignored. If the rest of the game wasn't so good it wouldn't have left me feeling quite as empty at the end as it did.

The ending was supposed to be like that. As the title says It's just not your story. Throughout the story your more of a guide than anything. It's like reading a book from a minor characters perspective. You the big details but in the end it's supposed to make you want more.

Precisely; the lolwut? end reveal is ham-fistedly forced down your throat on purpose to make you want more.

Duh .

Much of what precedes it though is worthwhile, especially the characterisation of the fallible, yet earnest, teacher.

It's steeped in highschool-drama-social-network-overspill and internet subculture though. So if that's not your cup of 4chan, it's probably not worth wading through.

Yume Miru Kusuri.

Got this a week ago after having a walk through TvTropes, ending up on the page for it and reading the first three paragraphs of the page. It really, really is good. It delves quite a bit into things, especially bullying, and it really makes it worthy of having an 18+ for being mature, instead of it just being for the sex. I'm crap at selling stuff to people, especially if I really like it, but I highly recommend it.

G-senjou no maou and Saya no uta.

Two of the most memorable and amazing VNs I have ever read.

While they're presented in Visual Novel format, I believe they're a bit different with "Visual Novels" that being talked here. Bible Black and Slave Pageant is more to a hardcore H , while most of us are searching a more story-centric Visual Novels (although many of Visual Novels including mature subjects, including H). Well...It's same with posting a hardcore porn film to a normal film recommendation thread.

But still your opinion is welcomed :)
I also recommend you to check some of other VN that being suggested here, if you havent, to see what a story-centric VN can do :p

Suggestions for Other Visual Novels?

Katawa Shoujo was my first visual novel, and I absolutely loved it. The story line drew me in for each individual character and it was brilliant overall. I didn't expect to feel the range of emotions I experienced while working my way through the different paths.

Being very new to visual novels, I was wondering if anyone could suggest other visual novels similar to Katawa Shoujo in the sense of having an engaging plot line and good character development. I don't mind the H scenes as long as they don't subtract from the story. I'm hoping there are other visual novels out there that are on par with this one, because I really enjoyed it.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Regarding character development, Clannad has alot of good ratings.
