Theory regarding Hanako's "dark tiles" game.

As far as I've seen, usually when floor tiles have one lighter shade and one darker shade, it's alternated to where the darker tiles are aligned diagonally, as are the lighter tiles. Even if they aren't, and even if Hanako isn't following the tiles in a line (I believe Hisao mentions in his narration that her steps are seemingly random), the fact that she sometimes likes to stay on the darker tiles might make her comparable to a bishop.

Spoilers ahead for those who haven't seen her act 1 ending and/or haven't read her character bio:

I think that, for whatever reason, her father used "bishop" as a pet name for her. So if the "or" in her ending refers to her father, she uses the dark tiles as a way of holding on to his memory.

Yes, her parents were spies murdered by foreign espionage agents and when hisao accidentally says her codename, she becomes a killing machine.

The tiles/chess playing thing is interesting, I really think one bishop is placed on white and one on black though.

Yes, just the fact that she likes to stick to one might mean a lot more than she lets on, though, is what I'm saying.

Not until someone's a time lord. Besides, some of the Misha disability guesses are easy rivals for this.

All killing machines are activated with the phrase...

"Gee, that Italian family at the next table is being awfully quiet..."

Anyways...
If theory is correct...
I assume when hanako was younger she'd play this game walking around or something with her father which then he came about calling her "bishop"
or was that already implied...

I feel like what Hiaso said about it sums it up well enough "How lonely do you have to be to come up with a game like that?"

I feel like it is just that though. Your theory is interesting but I've played games like that in school when the hallways are empty.

Just a byproduct of boredom and loneliness more than anything. But I like your leaps of thinking its that kind of thinking that produces the best FanFictions.

Maybe you should try it?

I've been able to connect things that no normal person would have been able to find similar, but even this is way out there for me. You would find me doing the dark tiles thing purely because of autism.

Though I will agree that in the end when Hisao asks Hanako about of she'd ever played with Lilly before, and she says "nobody but you or....." and leaves it there, judging by her sad expression I was thinking she meant her father.

I don't know why people obsess over this so much. I like fan theories in general as it's part of the fun and hate spoil sports, but in this case I'm pretty sure it was just put in to make her seem cute and child-like. I played this game as a kid, and if half the forum had as good a memory you'd probably remember doing so too. Only we didn't consciously c onsider it a "game". But if it had just observed her doing it, everyone would think it was a symptom of something, so they called it a game outright.

Actually, I believe this theory to hold some ground in the case that she might have played it before while holding her father's hand as a child. Remember, that Hanako was young when the accident happened and she very well could have even played that game with her father at a time and that truely is one way of her holding onto his memory. It's not loneliness but a childhood game.

If you are to go through Nc5xB3 (Hanaoko's ending) you would notice that Hisao says that Hanako does this on what seems to be a regular basis, so I don;t think its just out of loneliness but has a deeper meaning. And also the fact that Hanako says she only does this when the halls are empty.

Of course someone could always argue the fact that there are no actual black and white tiles on the floor for the BG, but that could just be something to overlook. Afterall the BG images are actual photos and not drawn.

Simple, another theory developes to keep us all entertained until release. Or if you guys would like me to rephrase Hisao, "I wonder; just how bored does someone has to be to create a topic like this?"

Now that I've thought on it more, I want to add a little. (again, spoilers below.)

Perhaps the reason he would call her "bishop" is because as a child she sometimes walked more diagonally than straight (clumsiness, inattentiveness, possibly both)

...yeah, I'm reading way too effing deep into this, I need to get out with my friends.
