Thanks Mercutio for saying the facts and drawing the line for the other side of the argument
eh, just saying what I feel (something I really shouldn't do when I have to get up for an 8AM class and haven't had coffee yet), not trying to make some grand statement or speak for anybody but me. but I think ubergeneral's post might have triggered something, if you take a look at what hivemind wrote in the blog today.

thing is, the demo showed that KS is going to be (or at least really, really has the potential to be) a damn good game. one worth playing, with writing and art that shows the effort the devs put into it. I really shouldn't get that mad when someone suggests something I know the devs aren't gonna do, but it's like... c'mon, man, don't be such a prude.

I think I'm done ranting about this for now.

the internet equivalent of Mos Eisley.
I love that line, lol.
Tempted to try and talk the 4Chan admins into changing the tagline on /b/ from "Random" to "Wretched hive of scum and villany!"

That means that no matter how good the writing is or how colorful that characters are eventually there will be porn. It's possible that the writer didn't know this fact and just by reading the demo you wouldn't know this either.

This is the biggest argument as to way there should not be porn in the final product. KS already has 2 strikes against it for being from 4 chan. Now add porn and no matter how tasteful the writing is and no matter well developed the characters are people will not think too highly of this project.
for fuck's sake, man.

first: why are you trying to speak for everybody? "people will not think too highly of this project" if there's sex? bullshit. you're not all people, and not everybody thinks like you. some people will think more highly of KS because there's sex in it (shocking, I know), and they've probably got all kinds of reasons - they might think that it's a good thing that disabled people are shown as being sexy and having sex lives too, they might think it's good that the devs didn't chicken out and act like high school kids aren't actually having sex (the horror! the horror!), or maybe they just like sex scenes in their entertainment.

believe it or not, you can actually have good, quality, artistic entertainment (books, movies, comic books, tv shows, and yes video games) that include sex scenes. just because KS is a visual novel doesn't mean it's suddenly different.

second: it's the devs' game, not yours, not mine. they make it, we just play it. and if I've learned anything about creative works in progress, it's that you don't tell the makers what to do unless you're one of the people making it, you don't tell them to add something or take something out and act like you expect it to happen. you know what you get when you have a creative project with all kinds of outside interference? you get a shitty result. do you want a shitty result? I don't.

...nothing personal, man. I'm just sick as hell of people screaming "CUT OUT THE SEX SCENES! SOMEONE MIGHT NOT LIKE IT!" or acting like it's somehow bad to show people having sex. they're in, that's not changing, get over it.

[/rant]
I could be wrong, but I think you're taking what he said the wrong way. I think the point he was driving at is that no matter how good the game (or movie or book etc) is, if there is sex/nudity/violence, some wacko prude is gonna throw a tantrum and get all the other wacko prudes to sign petitions and write angry letters and will go completely bonkers over something that is completely unwarranted.

Is it stupid? Hell yeah it is? Will that stop KS from getting a bad rap? No, unfortunately

I like to think of it this way: If some people are going to get all wacko prudey over something that's really good despite (or even because of) its controversial content, they don't deserve to enjoy it anyway. A little elitist? Yeah, maybe. Personally, I spent enough time under the thrall of fundamentalist religion that I think it's an earned prejudice, but that's just me.

Fortunately, however poplar we may want KS to get, I think it's safe to say that it probably won't ever become well enough known to show up on the jabbering masses' indignation radar anyway.

Rapelay was pretty obscure, and now it's all over CNN and stuff. It only takes one prude to find something and show it to more prudes to start the crazy train rolling.

Simulated rape is pretty different than simulated consensual sex between two disabled people. I don't think hating rape makes you a prude.

Face it; KS, like any creative work; can be attacked by either liberal or conservative extremists. And extremists all got freaking unlimited passes on the crazy train. I mean nutjobs can get together and raise a stink about "The Red Badge of Courage" if it enters their collective consciousness to do so. Shrug, I'm just glad the Devs are doing this on their own and don't need to worry about what some marketing department or legal department is trying to dictate to them to appease as many fringe groups as possible and "maximize marketability".
(In fringe groups I guess we KS fans have to include ourselves to be brutally honest. I bet the Devs would like us to shut our yaps anyway and let them get on with doing their project. )

It was more an example of something obscure making a big fuss, not prudes making a big deal over nothing, although it is to some extent.

Don't get mad at vidya games.

I know, what I meant was that a game involving rape is more likely to cause a fuss than something like this. I'm sure this game will still cause a pretty big fuss though, even though it'll be over nothing.

I suppose the worst thing would be if no one besides us KSfags noticed when the full VN is released. Now that would be kinda sad.
