Good, even they realize what kind of madness could pop up if it was bundled with...well, just about anything.

I mean, the whole idea is to do it when/if you want to, so the best idea is to simply point people in the right direction and let them decided if they want and are capable of assisting.

Trolling us droolling fanboys? No, I suspect the target of the troll might have been Delta. Since guess who would probably be saddled with that to implement; if they were crack-brained enough to try it..

Ah, just a little note. I just looked at the KS team page and we have passed the 1K Work Unit mark and some jerkface named Bara has been the first in the team to do 100 Work Units.

(But alas, my score sucks donkey shclong because many of those WU are done on my PS3 and not a GPU which scores the best.)

We have broken the 4,000th team mark.

We are now at position 3,855 out of 162,277, putting us in the top 2.3% of all registered teams.

We have completed 1,176 work units, for a grand score of 448,766.

The team currently fields 95 members.

Keep folding.

Having narrowly pwned crud with my poor single-core machine feels oddly satisfying.

Welp, I got a new PC built a couple of days ago, with a graphics card that was actually made this decade (GTX 260). Its running the GPU client like a dream, looks like its getting through a 15 million part WU in less than an hour. I know it was previously said that its a bad idea to run the SMP and GPU clients at once, but what about the standard client and GPU? I'm running a Quad core processor (Q6700 2.66Ghz), could that handle it?

I forget to turn it on when I turn on my PC.

Gone are the days of 3-month uptimes for me, but if you really want I don't mind doing something daft like that just to beat you...

Heh

If you really want to run both the SMP and GPU clients, there's nothing I can really do to stop you, just please bear in mind that both are still experimental, and the SMP seems to be especially picky.

The reason I like the standard client (esp. console version) is because of how I can scale it to what I'm doing.

For example, On my desktop I have 4 folders named F@H KS1, F@H KS2, F@H KS3, and F@H KS GPU.

If I'm asleep or at work, I'm running all 4. If I want to play a game, I turn off the GPU and KS3, but am still running KS1 and KS2.

If I'm just surfing the net, then I turn on GPU as well.

With an Nvidia GPU like yours, 1 standard client + GPU client and you would not even notice a difference (except in games), because your cpu would only be running at 25%-30%

PS @Malinor:

I was worried about your rig originally, but an Nvidia 9800 means that your running with CUDA. Nvidia originally designed this technology to make it easier for them to run a GPU more like a CPU, which is why you saw such a low CPU usage on it, so yay! We were both right! (Or both wrong, depending on how you look at it  )

PPS:

Anyone else suddenly looking for a used PS3?

No intention of running both SMP and GPU, I know thats madness. Couldn't setup the SMP client in any case for whatever reason. Still, normal client and GPU are running quite happily together at any rate and have been for the last few days. Average CPU usage is indeed around the 25-30% mark, so I keep that on most of the time.

Apparently all F@H does is max out my CPU with no visible result.

What do the F@H log files say when you read them?

it can take a while before your page gets updated. first of all, you need to complete at least a single work unit before you get any points at all.

and of course, your log should indicate when progress is made. it reports every 1% you complete of the workunit when it functions correctly. I can't really imagine it taking up cpu time without actually doing anything though.
unless it's stuck in a loop, but I think windows would notice.
