Re: Shizune Arc (misha, jigoro)
[...] Who's being unreasonable here? The daughter who might just not be able to learn the father's method, or the father who is unwilling to accommodate his daughter? A hearing person can learn to sign, a Deaf person cannot 'learn' to hear. All things being equal, I'm inclined to say anything Jigor...

Re: Can Shizune read lips?
I'd put lip reading into Room 101. It's an useful tool to assist into understanding conversation, but it is just one of the tools available and on itself not sufficient. As per Wikipedia , supported by personal experience, only 30% of what is being said (not 30% in terms of how many words!) can be ...

Re: Can Shizune read lips?
Because that ASL joke never gets old. BSL is British Sign Language, and is in a separate language family from ASL and JSL which are in their own (having evolved on their own, separately) I dunno about JSL, but I've been half-heartedly studying BSL. Apparently the most important things Deaf...

Re: KS2Android [WORKING Android "port"]
Something to add here... The main issue here is the lack of control over the quality of the port. Which is understandable, because since 4LS is seen as the maker of Katawa Shoujo, most 'dumb' users (not really dumb but just ignorant or not tech savvy) will first complain to 4LS when something goes ...

Re: New manga serial on deaf girl credits Katawa Shoujo
Well, the first chapter was well done, and it goes well as a one shot, but I have no idea why instead of continuing the story, she's retelling the story in an extended format. I have exactly zero motivation to read that, since I already know how it ends and it's probably just bulying from start to ...

Re: Shizune Arc (misha, jigoro)
Neither Hisao nor MIsha are trained professionals so a lot of what should be conveyed across is probably lost. In some cases, intentionally and for good reason. Intentionally, I accept. For a good reason? It is not Misha's nor Hisao's choice as to whether someone says something to Shizune, nor whet...

Re: Hanako's Broken Heart Club
To get back on topic, I'm in my second playthrough of Shizune's route, and something git me big time. I didn't like her route at all the first time through, and I figured out why. She's almost a female copy of myself. I've always been someone who's struggled to make friends, and by the end of high ...

Re: Hanako's Broken Heart Club
[..] I agree there... A lesson I learned early enough was the difference between 'friends' and actual friends: Either they are still friends even if it isn't convenient at that moment... or they are friends only when it is convenient to them. I choose to not bother with the latter. And with my Deaf...

Re: Hanako's Broken Heart Club
[..] Overall my advice to people, is to remember that a single true friend far outweighs a hundred acquaintances, and often times the loneliest people, the anti-socials and the rejects, will make the best friends you could ever find. Because those who know what it's like to have few to none in thei...

Re: Summer By The Sea [A sorta-sequel to Weekend at Hisao's]
Adding to the discussion about 'condition': I'm Deaf myself, I don't really live in the Deaf world/community but I never consider or mention my Deafness as a handicap/condition. It is simply my lifestyle. Now what might influence it is whether you were deaf since you were born (or since you were jus...
