Re: Did you sometimes forget that KS was not Japanese?

The closest examples of "neither eastern nor western" VNs that I can name are Roseverte's games . They're created by a small team of people, including both native English and Japanese speakers. Another obvious difference is in the H-scenes. If it were a Japanese eroge the girls would end u...

Re: Hentai that is well writing as KS ??

Actually, come to think of it, most good hentai scenes in VNs are purposefully creepy or out-right hilarious. Only Katawa Shoujo can properly do heart-warming H-Scenes. It has been a while, but I definitely enjoyed reading Kana Little Sister. This visual novel has several plot relevant sex scenes, ...

Re: KS Inspired VN Project Survey

As Otakumon said, "Make what you want." I know that having feedback can sometimes be helpful. But you gotta think about what sort of story or game you wanna make, and then commit to it. Ideas are easy. Writing and coding is difficult! That said, if it might help, some of my replies to the ...

Re: If Katawa Shoujo was a JRPG...

It would be amusing to see Katawa Shoujo as a western RPG. Since I'm an unapologetic fan of cute aesthetics, I haven't really tried more than a few western RPGs, since I don't really care for realistic styles. After spending about eighty hours on Persona 4, I think I'm ready for another game which c...

Re: What If Katawa Shoujo Never Existed?

Back around 2005, I stumbled into western visual novel fandom. I'd become disillusioned with the translated H-game scene, and I was trying to find some other entertainment to fill the time in between console RPGs and the one or two decent Peach Princess games. Back then, only a few fans had written ...

Re: Where is the Tsundere?

It's been a few years since I read a decent amount of the Katawa Shoujo demo. At the time, I thought the main characters more or less fit into common archetypes. (Emi seemed energetic, Rin seemed eccentric, Lily seemed refined, Hanako seemed deeply troubled... and I wasn't sure what to make of Shizu...

Re: Do you make your love/admiration/etc. for this game publ

It's only because I started attending a local anime convention (Anime Central, near Chicago every year since 2005) that I got to meet other VN / romance game fans. The con is fully of events, so it's tough to talk with strangers for even five minutes. But I have met a number of interesting fans at S...

Chiming in here as a person who's been active in anime-manga fandom for almost fourteen years... It has been a little while since I got into a game or a story with a distinct western aesthetic. I know there's plenty of examples that are selling millions and getting critical praise. So if it's not *t...

Re: Recommend a VN

I won't recommend School Days, really. Reading through the initial reviews I had thought it to be good and downloaded the Chinese version, but in the end it turned out (for me) to be very, very boring. It's an attempt to emulate an anime, but things progress at such a turtle speed it's not even fun...

Re: My VN pitch

If you're striving to create your own visual novel, then the best place to get feedback is the Lemma Soft Forums. It's pretty much the central hub for English speaking fans who are making western visual novels. Unfortunately, I can't recommend posting on 4chan. No matter how polite and well written ...

Re: I want to pay... something.

I've personally talked with a number of fans who choose not to pay for their commercial-quality media. And I've seen plenty of blog posts and comments from people who say they won't pay for commercial products, often for trivial reasons. So it's a bit surprising to see this topic. Also, I've seen a ...

Re: Similar style of game

My question is, is there many similar games out there like this? What exactly are you looking for? Are you interested in story or art style? Do you want recommendations for any sort of fiction, or do you specifically want a video game? Help us understand specific things which you enjoy, or specific...

Re: Would you play a "mental disability" VN similar to KS?

Characters with mental illness and psychological problems can be played for drama. It's possible to include some comedy or romance elements, but I imagine that could be rather difficult. It's good to consider the setting. Asking "why are these characters in the same place?" is probably a g...

Re: Creation of a new (original) VN

It seems like this thread is being used to develop stories or games. That said, I have written numerous concepts for visual novels in the Ideas Dump thread of the Lemma Soft forum. In other words, I have plenty of ideas for stories and games. But every time I actually start writing, it takes hours o...

Re: Other games

It looks like Vorgier went into the Visual Novel Database, filtered the results for products which have at least a partial English version, and then listed them in terms of users' rankings. A lot of those top 25 or 50 products have very good reputations, though some of them are long out of print, or...
