Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

I think as long as no profit is made, I can distribute it, and as far as I'm aware, if it is labeled as "unofficial" then it's not against copyright. It would still cost money to purchase it, but that money would go to the publisher, not to myself, and would simply cover the printing/proce...

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

It probably wouldn't be available in any bookstores, unfortunately, but you'd likely be able to get it directly from Create Space as well as Amazon.com.

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

Can't believe you're actually doing it, Jisan. Wanna get on yipyapper's list so bad or what? The "Unsung Heroes" list? I really don't care. I was actually inspired to do this because of Katawa Shoujo itself. I've started writing quite a few novels and other stories, but I've never once be...

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

Just over 8,100 words, 20.5 pages, roughly, and I'm done for the night. I'll probably be able to get about 5-8 thousand words per weekend, but during weekends I'll have substantially less time to work on it. I'd estimate that the first Act will be done in two weeks or less (probably less), and then ...

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

Even if I get a no for mass publishing, there is no copyright infringement if I were to make it for myself. Even if I get a no, perhaps a final product that the devs could actually see may change their minds. In the end, I'm going to finish at least one of these novels, even if I get a no. If I get ...

Re: When did you come to like a particular character?

So many people calling me Jellyfish-Oji. o_O Lol. I actually had to look up what "oji" meant because I'm rather "Japanese-illiterate." However, I rather like the sound of it. :D

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

On my 19th page, ~7,300 words, just knocked on Kenji's door. Progress slowed earlier today due to work stuff, but I've been plowing on again. It seems that on an average weekday, if I work diligently, I could get about 2,000 words typed in a couple hours. I work 12 and 10 hours on Saturday and Sunda...

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

The story should transcribe to a "Choose your own adventure" book I think, but yeah of course it would work well as a written novel, that's practically what it is and the game depends so much on writing that I think it would translate easier than other games (non-VNs). Problem with it bei...

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

About 14 pages, ~5,200 words, and I'm stopping for my lunch break. (My hands are making more mistakes since I'm hungry. @_@ I'm so useless when I'm hungry. >.<") I've decided to wait until about halfway through Act 1 before sending out my first proofreading set. If anyone wants to be added to t...

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

I PMed Aura. Hopefully we'll hear good news.

As for using italics for Misha's laugh, that is actually a pretty good idea. The ~ is a symbol that doesn't carry over well into books, but italics would reflect the emphasis quite well.

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

You have a point, there. I was going to give them full credit for the story (Story written by 4 Leaf Studios, with names if they so choose), but I suppose I really should ask permission before publishing. Another note, I've encountered my first real problem: Misha. The way she translates what Shizun...

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

For reference: Topic containing a link to The flowchart of how to do act 1 I'll sideline the Shizune argument then until when her arc comes up :P And point conceded re: Lilly. Also, I thought this thread was for discussing turning the VN into a N? :S How can discussing it hijack the thread? :P Well...

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

For Lilly's route, I figured that him introducing himself (especially after the depressing hospital stay) would show a tiny bit of personal growth, which I feel would help solidify their relationship from his perspective a bit more. As for Shizune's route, the very reason she spends time with him is...

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

It wouldn't really work because one, you have to technically right a new book for every character's route. I was already going to do this. Two, certain scenes like in Lily's good route where she come back to you and that music box plays will lack the music that goes with. I've thought of this, and ...

Re: Would Katawa Shoujo have worked as a written novel?

My biggest concern with having others help with the transcribing is that any sort of added text (as in, it was added in order to provide fluidity to the story, since the original text in the VN was lacking when moved to a novel format) will be different depending on the person transcribing it. This ...
