Re: Terminology debate - "mute" versus "voice-off"

So I found this: http://www.quora.com/Is-the-word-mute-offensive-to-deaf-people Despite all the things I'd been told and heard, had my ASL instructor use the term commonly, it seems as though the greater Deaf community does indeed find the term offensive. One deaf person on the thread said it's equi...

Where did you get that, exactly?

Re: Terminology debate - "mute" versus "voice-off"

It really depends on whether or not the person with the speech disorder talks or not. If they talk but it's disrupted, then they're not mute. If they choose not to talk because of their speech disorder or their speech disorder causes them to be unable to talk, then they're mute. In regards to the po...

Re: Terminology debate - "mute" versus "voice-off"

Straight from wikipedia, although I'm sure it's detailed in many places the same way: Speech disorders or speech impediments are a type of communication disorder where 'normal' speech is disrupted. This can mean stuttering, lisps, etc. Someone who is unable to speak due to a speech disorder is consi...

Re: Terminology debate - "mute" versus "voice-off"

Thanks for the links brythain, they were informative if not quite relevant. From the two dozen or so official documents and papers and commentaries I've read so far, the adjective 'mute' is sometimes seen as the offensive part of the composite adjective 'deaf-mute'. Generally, deaf people don't mind...

Re: Katawa DLCs

Do they give you motivation and keep you going when your body feels like it's ready to give in? Will it enable you to run the 100m sprint when your body gives up after 75m? Will it remind you that only you can make yourself a better person? Because if so, yes please. They do, but it costs an extra ...

Re: Terminology debate - "mute" versus "voice-off"

I'm defensive because you suggested I'm making this up There you go putting words in my mouth again. That's starting to get pretty annoying, you know. I've never once said you're making this up, but I do believe you've misunderstood something somewhere along the lines, leading you to believe someth...

Re: Hanako's Broken Heart Club

I remember once that a relationship guru said that when a woman goes through drastic, life altering changes that it's incredibly difficult for her to maintain a relationship throughout. Prove him wrong, man. Like metalangel said, you've got to work on yourself too. It's important that you grow with ...

This part is especially true. If you're both to be successful, it will be a harder journey for you than it will be for her.

Re: Terminology debate - "mute" versus "voice-off"

The simple fact that you got automatically defensive about being accused of lying suggests that you would be lying if you did say something like that. I hadn't even considered the fact that you could lie about it, because I believe in Katawa Shoujo's fanbase. So far you haven't lied or (at least int...

You aren't truly 'Murcian unless you own several guns and shoot them pointlessly every day.
