Well it seems to be working correctly with me on firefox 29.0.1, so it's either you might have to use another browser or it might be as simple as clearing the cache and cookies will get it to work properly.

If you re-downloaded the game, then the save files won't work anymore as version 1.0 save files won't work with version 1.1 so you have to start from the beginning (the persistent file is compatible, so you won't lose anything you got from the 1.0 version).

Something certainly changed, have you tried reinstalling the game yet? I'm guessing you missed this in the original post... I tried reinstalling again As for fixing the issue, try doing a system restore to a day before the problem happened and see if it helps (if there is a restore point available)...
