Sequels are only pointless if they are rehashing the same thing or are just poorly written. You can write new stories and characters without them being redoes of Hisao and the other girls.

In Japanese flavoured stories (expecially anime and manga), I like it better when the honourifics are left in place... because in my experience when they translate them, they either apply titles wonkily (yay new word!), or they go to an extreme and use literal translations.
