Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumed 01 June 2015)

A supernatural or paranormal KS is unlikely, but so is turning an incredibly long-winded French novel about a man stuck in a conflict that nobody remembers into a musical. For me, very few concepts can't work if they are executed well. If it's well-written (the KS story, not Les Miz), sure, why not?...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting In Progress 25 May 2015)

Twists are acceptable when they're done well. When they aren't, they're just confusing. I had the same problems as everyone else, but then I went into "fix it" mode. I don't think it would take much to fix the story. If you write more than one story, you have to be careful with twists. Onc...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting 14/15 May 2015 onwards)

Dewelar is right, but it's a convention that's tough to break. You can do a story with Hanako as a giraffe, a Klingon, or the ranking Commissioner for the Patapsco Drainage Area, and it might work as long as the character acts like Hanako. If she doesn't, you've just attached Hanako's name to some o...

All The World's A Stage (One Shot)

Hello. I haven't posted anything in some time, so I thought I'd try another story. Some people liked the story I did on the Lilly route, so I thought I'd do another, with her in it this time. But not much - I'll warn you that the story revolves around the canon, but it's kind of a distant orbit. I a...

Re: Epilogue. (Emi Good Ending)

Yes, please fix the paragraphing. The dialogue isn't bad, depending on where you are heading; it's too soon to tell. The game was a visual novel, so we had pictures to help us tell what was going on. We (mostly) don't have that capability for fanfic - we have to set the scene with words. Please spen...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting 18/19 Apr 2015 onwards)

Dewelar brings up a very interesting point... When we write futures about KS characters, we expect readers to connect our futures folks with the characters of the canon. If we're smart about it, we work to make those connections. It's fairly easy to do that with futures that occur just after Yamaku ...

Re: Rin's Dream

I agree with Gajzla. Yes, there are some spelling and grammar mistakes, but one last copyedit before you post will fix that, or maybe have somebody else look at it. It's no big deal. And I liked the surreal quality. You looked inside of Rin's mind, and in a dream, no less. I've tried to look inside ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Currently Undergoing a Sea Change)

It would be interesting at some future time to see how you found your answer. :) Both you and Dewelar anticipated me to a great degree. It's another form of reverse engineering. I would have said a better parallel is the discovery of Pluto. She reacts in unexpected ways - the trick is to identify t...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Currently Undergoing a Sea Change)

I suspect people have difficulty writing Rin because even in her own route, she's fairly enigmatic. I can imagine that it makes it hard to get inside her head effectively - it's hard to simulate a train of thought so alien to your own. Obviously it's not impossible, but it makes her challenging to ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Currently Undergoing a Sea Change)

Another rookie here...
I wanted to compliment the writing here - detailed without interfering with the plot, crisp, and direct. Cosmic Moustache did a really nice job, especially working from Rin's POV - I haven't been able to do that yet.
Good selection.

Re: A Future (Complete Version)

The physical world has raised its ugly head, and I have not been around for awhile. For Brythain, thank you kindly. I read this again recently and still liked it, which hardly ever happens. For azumeow, the analogy of elements was the way I tried to avoid that situation. Carbon in carbon dioxide and...

Re: Prelude To Another Future Yet (All Chunks Present)

As I remember, attributed writers included Suriko, CPL_Crud, Aura, Hivemind, and Anon22. I also seem to remember Suriko answering some personal question in the blog by self-referral as "the prettiest girl." I apologized before the story and do so again, especially if I honked up the IDs. D...

The Third Chunk

Chapter 9 - Highway to Heaven The raven flew rings around the school, ever widening . She had no interest in the school – her attention was drawn upward. Here was different from where she usually was, and the angle would be different as well. She noted the sun as it fell to the horizon, felt the ma...

Re: Prelude To Another Future Yet (1st and 2nd Chunk)

For Mirage_GSM: Good point. My problem in setting up the scene is that the sign language for that particular thought is the gesture that pretty much everyone uses. If Shizune was trying to vent and still be a little opaque, she might well have gone back to spelling it out. My source for this is Gall...
