Re: Favourite artworks - reprise.

Eguana made this. I commissioned it as a gift to myself, but I guess I should share it here:

The person sitting in Hisao's chair is alternate universe Iwanako, in case anybody was wondering.

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Update: August—Mutou)

Scene Nineteen: Further developments Crafty linkage not unseen Cannot be untrue Scene Nineteen was Bantamweights . ...Just kidding. Bantamweights is more like "Scene Two-Alpha." (Which I guess makes "Out Cold" Scene 1α, and Chapter 60 of Developments Scene 60α...) I'm hoping to ...

“I mean, your class representative is Kaname, right? I wouldn’t be surprised if they orchestrated the whole thing just so that they could come by and get the dirt you weren’t spilling. They’re fuckin’ sociopaths.” …Admittedly, I’d been somewhat upset to find them in the hospital room that day—I actu...

Bantamweights: A One-Shot

Congratulations to Dewelar on sixty chapters of Developments ! http://i.imgur.com/OSo1rdO.gif Right. So! As the thread title indicates, this is, indeed, a one-shot! As such, you can read it and enjoy it completely on its own, and not have to worry about anything else. This is not a story with a ste...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumed: July—Iwanako)

This thread is making me so happy. It's been a godawful summer and I really needed something like this.

Also, I guess this would be a good time to announce that I'm 3500 words into the next chapter. Mean Time to Breakdown has been brought to you this month by Ritalin™.

Blank Mage wrote:She really is more like a combination of Lilly on the outside, Hanako on the inside.
You'll also notice that Iwanako's hair is blonde in the very front and black in the back.

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumed: July—Iwanako)

...Damn. That post was a roller coaster.

I kind of want to know the origin story for the mysterious fourth wall-breaking Iwanaklone.

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumed: July—Iwanako)

Given that we're over halfway through the month, it might be best to open up all chapters up through nine for discussion, and just let people cherry-pick what scenes they want to talk about.

I dunno. Whatever works for everybody else works for me.

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumed: July—Iwanako)

a bit disappointing because of just how many of them that you present in these two chapters that I wouldn't have thought of initially - Iwanako's hesitance to wear swimwear due to it showing off her scar, lack of ability to have children, etc. They're potential wham moments that lose some of their ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumed: July—Iwanako)

Is the naginata-jutsu a reference? It doesn't have to be, I'm sure, but speaking as someone who occasionally writes things, I realize how tempting it is to sneak in insanely obscure inside jokes and the like. There are probably plenty of references buried in my writing that I've completely forgotte...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumed: July—Iwanako)

The analogs to Hisao have been discussed, but (to date) I'm catching a whiff of Holden Caulfield too. Oh, hmm. That was unintentional, but I'm extremely fond of Catcher in the Rye , so...it just kinda happened. Anyway, it's Saturday, so I guess we're discussing Scenes 5 and 6 , and, I guess, all fo...

Re: The Blank Slate - (Updated 7-8) Mirror Shoujo

Well, I wasn't envisioning it as quite so comprehensive an inversion as to render her unrecognizable—I agree that it would be pointless. I was thinking more in terms of her personality traits being the same (playfulness, bossy attitude, competitive, blunt, unable to keep friends) but bent towards ch...

Re: The Blank Slate - (Updated 7-8) Mirror Shoujo

Couldn't think of a good Shizune piece, for once, but I decided to go ahead with what I have. I would have expected bizarro!Shizune to be the complete inversion of the Class Representative/Student Council President anime tropes. I'd have made her the stereotypical Japanese delinquent: kogal fashion...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumed: July—Iwanako)

And then it hit me: Leaty's Iwanako from Scenes 3 and 4 sounds like a forty-something female doctor with a looming midlife crisis. You know, that's not actually all that surprising, despite Iwanako being seventeen and me being in my mid-twenties. One of the authors whose work I draw a great deal of...
