I think the chessboard was probably the best present for Hanako, if only because it was like Hisao gave her a gift that was relevant to her interests . Regardless of which doll she got, I really didn't see any indication that she liked dolls in the game, and it was more like she just kept whatever ...

But it's interesting to know that an expensive doll is magically less childish. :P Those porcelain dolls can be expensive as hell really, but more importantly, woe if you so much as touch them with anything less than silken gloves while a collector is nearby. Somehow they carry the tone of "SRSBZ"....

On a similar note, did anyone prefer the presents in Hanako's route over Lilly's? A doll and a teddy bear seemed like awfully childish presents. While an expensive doll and nice chess set = classy. If she liked it, she liked it. Class is irrelevant. But it's interesting to know that an expensive do...

Japan tends to have a thing for old tech that everyone else has largely disposed of...Like fax machines. You can still find them (just like you can still find Blockbuster), but they're kind of laughable now in many places where they used to be standard.
