It's not stated outright, but she mentions that she was bullied by the children who were her closest friends before her accident and that's when she stopped believing in friendship altogether. She went back to her old elementary school after being released from the hospital. (since she mentioned her old friends in the final scene of her route) Given the fact that was excluded from most groups in middle school, I'd say that one wasn't a special school either.

But also the least likely to function in a normal high school. It's perfectly possible her caretakers didn't even take treatability into account when offering to enroll her at Yamaku. They simply felt that a normal high school would damage her further.

That didn't play a role back then. Hanako didn't even meet Lilly until a year after she and Misha first became classmates. (and even if she and Lilly had friends from the very beginning, the Lilly/Shizune feud didn't really start until presumably the 2nd year at least)
