Re: Favourite Ending?
In retrospect, I've felt that writing the last scenes of act 1 to be a bit more "real" endings would've been smart.

Re: A Not Very Serious Hebrew Translation
The technical problems with RTL implementation are a little bit more complicated than that.

Re: A Not Very Serious Hebrew Translation
At this point it's probably best to tell you that Ren'Py can't do languages written from right to left properly (plus the game UI would need a RTL design), so a hebrew translation currently can't become a part of a distribution. Obviously this has no consequence on the translation itself, just that ...

Re: What exactly are we making here?
knowledge-finding race (nerdiest thing ever? Nerdiest thing ever) A bit of a tangent - there actually was a TV show with this format. Contestants had to use the internet search engins to find answers to VERY arbitrary and difficult questions posed by the host. Fastest won. Also I liked the insight ...

Re: What exactly are we making here?
VNs have evolved from dating sims, choices seem to have been the norm probably since the beginning. Not to say that a choiceless VN ever was some revolutionary idea (though VA/KEY almost managed to market them as one), rather that they've always been in the minority.

Re: What exactly are we making here?
Well in a way I agree that certain elements combined with a VN-like narrative definitely can and will define the product as a non-VN to me too, just like Hive. Gadget Trial does not register as a VN to me at all for example. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the recent developments and trends i...

Re: What exactly are we making here?
I'm just saying that defining a VN in a static, unchanging way that doesn't recognize that all things are in constant flux (which IMO is just what you're doing when stating that "a VN isn't a game, period") isn't doing the format any favors. Perhaps you should've actually paid attention to what I'm...

Re: What exactly are we making here?
I assure you there is not a single (successful) game designer that has ever thought that "this idea would be awesome but it differs too much from what constitutes a game so we'll drop it," just like a musician wouldn't say "oh shit, this chorus and orchestra thing isn't really metal so I guess we w...

Re: What exactly are we making here?
The underlying thing is that Hivemind actually is a real life scholar of a topic that makes this issue his field of expertise, so naturally it would be of interest to him and because we all are pretty much into this VN thing too, to us as well. I too criticized his blog post for sounding like an int...

Re: What exactly are we making here?
No, actually I'd say that we are not doing anything interesting at all with the medium, and with this matter we are just big words, all talk. As EL points out we really think and talk a lot about VNs as a medium, but so far we don't have a single unifying theory about what a good direction for the m...

Re: What exactly are we making here?
Identifying with the protagonist is fine, even desireable (at least in climatic's mind). What we don't want is that he would feel just like an empty vehicle, an avatar for the player. That is a completely different thing. Also re: skill. While someone might claim to have the skill of being able to g...

Re: 24
I really wish we used the documentation more. Even today's clusterfuck could've been avoided with some. I know it's not realistic though, we'd need one or two people who literally do nothing else except keep tabs on everything.
