The way I saw it was that first you get to see Hisao's troubles. Then you get to see Hanako's. Then when it comes to the crowd shot, it's not just Hanako looking lost. Both Hisao and Hanako are both in the crowd, facing opposite directions as people move by too fast and the world spins around them....
