Re: Shizune Arc
Well, early on we are only getting Misha's interpretation, and her role as interpreter is to convey the meaning and emotion of the message. Later on, Hisao does that for our benefit (which is to say: presenting what he and Shizune are saying in grammatically correct English). I have no doubt Shizune...

Re: Shizune Arc
For the deaf/mute people around here. Do you think it is really true, that signing forces you to think about what you say more than traditional talking? It was a point (or maybe just a rationalisation of her behaviour) in Shizune's characterisation and i couldn't help but wonder if this is really t...

Re: FDA approves new "blindness curing" glasses
I give up. When presented with facts or real life experience you just pull out more bullshit or try to direct the discussion around how you've just been shown wrong. Trololololo!

Re: Shizune Arc
For one thing, you've both developed psychic powers and can tell what part of a written statement someone else is reading. Unless you're doing it sentence by sentence (aka as slow as possible). For the other, this whole thing came about because of text communication's inability to convey emotion and...

Re: Shizune Arc
How does she know which line you were writing with "serious" body language and which with "joking around" body language?
Do you physically effect emotions while someone else, hearing or deaf, is reading something you wrote?

Re: FDA approves new "blindness curing" glasses
The thing is: At some level, she wants to. She probably has to learn it somehow. http://cur.cursors-4u.net/smilies/images1/smi20.gif It is physically impossible for her to learn to interpret speech, even if she wanted to. Critical Period hypothesis and research backing it states that language acqui...

Re: Shizune Arc
And at which point are you doing the body language? As you write the sentences out or as you somehow figure out which one she's reading?YZQ wrote:
As you're typing into the handphone, she can well be observing you. We were talking about written communication face-to-face.

Re: FDA approves new "blindness curing" glasses
Shizune would probably consider getting her ears fixed, I assume anyone lacking a sense would like the opportunity to gain it http://limpingchicken.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/tdg-misshear-mdaigle-b.jpg A clash of ideals is what I see in Shizune's working life. She want others to fit her way, and h...

Re: Shizune Arc
Besides intonation, there is still body language. Hell, it may be hard to read sometimes, but it's there for anyone. Besides, for the "I'll kill you" scenario, if I want to kill someone, why will I want to give a warning? However, reading body language - subconscious actions - is a better indicator...

Re: Shizune Arc
Kutagh, I thought while playing KS that due to how ubiquitous smartphones have become now, at least partial conversation with people unable to use sign language would be easier. Is this actually something you'd agree with, or would you say it only makes it more frustrating because now you're expect...

Re: FDA approves new "blindness curing" glasses
If Shizune knew that there is a 1% chance that she could ever speak clearly and hear, I will bet my hat that she'll pursue it to the ends of the world and beyond. The Shizune shown ingame would exactly not do this. Depends on how good the device is. My reading of the situation is that Shizune could...

Re: FDA approves new "blindness curing" glasses
well, thread titles can only be so long, 'blindness curing' is more succinct and on that note, deafness is expected to be fully curable by 2022, so good news for Shizune Though we don't know the reason or timeline behind her deafness, she is very likely past the stage of being able to learn to inte...

Re: FDA approves new "blindness curing" glasses
Not sure if there can really be a thread about this, but I thought people in the forum, especially fans of Lilly, would enjoy this news. http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm339824.htm Currently, it wouldn't work on someone like Lilly (who was genetically blind from birth), ...
