Why should I stop liking a story just because it's been out five years?

I also enjoy reading other books that are more than a hundred years old.

No complaints about British English - I prefer to use it myself.
Apart from the prepositions and the is/it typo already pointed out here's one more case of past tense:

I took a long sip of tea,

We're going star gazing to celebrate the vernal equinox

The vernal equinox has a fixed date (MAR 20th). This story is currently in June, so it could possibly be summer solstice - that would be about three weeks after HIsao's arrival.

Seems the changes to previous chapters really were minor, since I didn't find myself inconvenienced by not rereading them

Okay, for starters, Hisao's backstory being less developped than the others' in the VN is more or less intentional, since in a VN the protagonist is usually meant to be the placeholder for the reader. With the way Hanako has changed as compared to the VN, I'd expected this to be set WAY further in the future.
