I cannot guarantee my description is accurate, though, because first hand accounts are hard to find. I learned about the condition from here, and it remains one of the best sources I could find on the topic.

I haven't read the VN, but I heard the Anime is a mix of several of the VN's paths, so I think if you plan to view/read both, you should probably start with the VN, as the Anime will probably spoil all tree paths for you.
