They have romaji, which is the western alphabet.
I imagine someone who is unfamiliar with texting would use those instead of figuring out how to get his cell phone to produce kanji.

Damn you, this ate up almost all my time until I have to go to work! Excellent chapter(s). I was a bit disappointed it turned out to be a dream.
