Re: Meet the Hakamichis –A USM Summer Series Updated 7/28
Hisao and Misha rolled a three, while Lynda managed a four. Misha and Hisao rolled off to break their tie, resulting in a five for Hisao and a four for Misha. Thus, the order of players was chosen: Hisao, Lynda, Misha, Shizune. That's still not how it works. Lynda won the roll, so no matter what Hi...

Re: Meet the Hakamichis –A USM Summer Series Updated 7/28
but I figure Shizune is anal enough to demand a duel to break the tie for her own personal amusement (and keep things fair.) How is it fair to have the one who won the roll do another game to see if they really won? Short answer: they got tired of Shizune always picking Asia and steamrolling them. ...

The first two are actually the same story. The second entry is more or less the epilogue of the first. They share the same thread and the same continuum, so I'd make it one entry.

[“Standard method to pick countries?”] ... [“I choose North America. Any objections?”] Uh... I hesitate to ask, but have you ever played Risk? Hisao and Misha rolled a three, while Lynda managed a four. Misha and Hisao rolled off to break their tie, resulting in a five for Hisao and a four for Mish...

SC has a personal definition of "crossover" which he explains in the thread he linked to.
Besides:
Besides:
I'm having trouble rconciling the first part of that statement with the second part...generally happy universe with all the poor people suffering.

Re: The Orion Project - [Sci-Fi] [UPDATED 07/26/2014]
Also, any amount of redirected power helps. Futuristic elctromagnets respond extremely well to any amount of extra power. You know, you don't have to write "hard" SciFi. You can just as well write bubbly little stories where laserswords can cut through anything, relativity is nonexistant and spaces...

Re: The Orion Project - [Sci-Fi] [UPDATED 07/26/2014]
Two more reality checks: Firstly, redirecting power from "nonessential systems" is fine, but did you have to specify laundry machines and lighting ? Neither uses more than a few Watts with today's technology, so either they build them extremely inefficient in the future, or they won't even make a de...

Re: The Orion Project - [Sci-Fi] [UPDATED 07/25/2014]
Other than the names, the language itself hasn't mangled much. The point was: Why should the names be mangled if the rest of the language isn't? Did only the interiors of all the copies of those books survive and none of the covers? Very unlikely even today, when a lot of books are available electr...

Re: The Orion Project - [Sci-Fi] [UPDATED 07/25/2014]
That's why the Galactic Knowledge Database existed, to remove confusion. However, by popular vote it was suspended, so I have to try and shoehorn explanations into the story. There are two tricks to this: 1. Recognize what information is important for your readers to "get" the story and 2. Don't ad...

I suggest using more line breaks/smaller paragraphs.
Interesting pairing, and I realize you had to move things along quickly, because the two would have few opportunities to meet outside the festival, but still Miki trying to all but seduce a kid on their first meeting is a bit... strange.
