Re: A Box of Madeleines

What a beautiful miniature! I'm very appreciative of the metafictional aspect, and I love your Saki.

Re: Yamaku Book Club (20180319 'The Escape')

It's another short one, but good. I still go by what I said in the topic before. It's a bit melodramatic, and feels a touch too angsty, which I admit does sound weird considering the story is set in hell. I do wish we had gotten more than one chapter of it though. The ending of the story sets up a ...

Re: Mask Off: A Molly Route (Update 3/8)

I admit, the game has me highly curious about these breads. I have the great good fortune to have an office with five Japanese eateries of various kinds within 5 minutes' walk. Today I had a mozzarella chicken cutlet on toast with barbecue sauce on the side. Excellent. You should also try a wagyu s...

And on the other side of the mirror, Emi saves the game, turns off her computer, and goes for a midnight run.

Straw—A Dream of Suzu (Bk2-6b up 20180322)

I spent 18 months researching Suzu's narrative, to make sure I could fill in the blanks. I still have not finished, because those blanks are deliberate. But I can draw some conclusions, and so can my readers. Suzu 6b: Intermission (T +29) 2053 hatsu shigure saru mo komino wo hoshige nari it’s the f...

Re: Within a Looking Glass – A Rika pseudo-route

Where did you pull the kanji from, though? This might be irrelevant, but I remember "water trade" to be an idiom for the sex industry, so... "水商売" refers to so-called 'waterfront businesses'—smuggling, prostitution, street hawking, nightclubs etc. They're businesses that are heavy into services and...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (20180319 'The Escape')

I liked reading 'The Escape' when I first saw it. It struck me as a beautiful fragment that had been unfortunately discarded from a rich table of scraps that had been put together by the devs. I still don't know who wrote the text, but the art is distinctive. The characters seem overly reserved and ...

Re: Alt Dreams [One-Shots] (#53—'Festival') (S8)

This is wonderful little story. if I have any complaint, it's that it's too short. I would have loved to see more of this. There's just so much personality you've packed in such a small space. That's a great compliment! I wrote it to blend in with AtD, so in a sense there's more of it. But I realis...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (20180305 'Madam Lillian's Specialty Service')

Starting out, I felt like I was going to hell for this. . So began one of the most entertaining pieces I ever had the pleasure (?) of reading. That quote, from the author's original post, burned deep into my soul. I resolved to never write anything again, after reading that. I broke my resolution. ...

Re: Alt Dreams [One-Shots] (#53—'Festival') (S8)

Very nice story, but [insert my usual reaction to the vertigo running gag]. :-) All characters are spot on, though I especially liked Misha's interior monologue ("I’m Misha. It’s so hard being Misha!")... Somehow it reminded me of some god wearing an elephant mask (not sure how many people will kno...

Re: Within a Looking Glass – A Rika pseudo-route

Since Yamaku is a private institution (such facilities normally are), I've always fudged it by saying that they adjust the national school calendar. Actually, since the summer break is six weeks from Sea Day (or Marine Day), which was 16 July in 2007, you could start term on 27 Aug if that helps. B...

Re: Within a Looking Glass – A Rika pseudo-route

Argh, trying to figure out the calendar of events, and realized that there is a timetable issue. This all is to have taken place in 2007. Assuming Hisao starts on June 4th, the first Monday in June of that year, we have the festival on June 10th. This makes Emi's track meet or when Hisao picks up K...

Re: Within a Looking Glass – A Rika pseudo-route

Passing out from a light walk is quite extreme - plus there are supposed to be busses :-) It strikes me that half of my problem is my own writing history. I rarely dealt with Council's, while I had to write about counsel often. Need to chastize myself. English is such a painful language... the plur...

Yamaku Book Club (20180225 'The Diary of Tezuka Rin…' by dewelar)

Now we're going to read ... The Diary of Tezuka Rin...or Rin Tezuka by dewelar In case you didn't notice, it's a Rin story. Those are often interesting. It's not quite a story. It was dewelar's only experiment before he decided to start writing the amazing 'Developments'. But it was an interesting ...

Re: Within a Looking Glass – A Rika pseudo-route

Yeah, warfarin can suck. I know someone who takes it (they have a mechanical heart valve) and they need to go for weekly blood tests to monitor the effects, make sure the dosages are right, and so on. It also interacts with a tonne of foods, which adds even more complication. There are alternates t...
