Katawa Zombpocalypse
Chapter 1: DIES IRAE Soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVjDP0vlem4 (This is one to turn up loud, especially if you're got subwoofers that can set off seismic monitors.) The worst week in my life starts just after the best. Lilly, Hanko, and I had gone up to Hokkaido for a long weekend; Lil...

Re: Went back and got that good Rin ending.
My reading of the good Rin ending is that Hisao had given up on the relationship by the time of the final scene, and *Rin* rescues the relationship in the end.

Re: I just finished Rin's route.
There is a unique thing about Rin's route: the minor choices, the ones that *don't* determine your final ending, can determine which scenes you get and how those scenes are played. To get the whole story one needs to go through them. You get the main ideas in any one path, but the details change. Ri...

Re: Lilly's Route (SPOILERS)
Lily has some pretty huge emotional issues, and they are only lightly touched on. Abandonment. Lilly has no apparent abandonment issues. "BUT SHE HAS TO HAVE BEEN MESSED UP!" - Prove it. Go compile every single instance of parents leaving their children ever. If every such child has issue...

Re: Lilly's Route (SPOILERS)
A lot of people have responded very well to my previous post on this thread. It's clear I've been understood, if not agreed with, so I'm happy there. Part of the inherent nature of VNs is that words are sparse, especially compared to the story that gets told. This means that we perforce get the tip ...

Re: Lilly's Route (SPOILERS)
I've been thinking about Lily's route a bit, and I'm coming to the conclusion that it's lacking. In the other paths we deal extensively with the women's emotional issues. The best example here is Emi's path where the whole story is about supporting Emi as she deals with her father's death. Lily has ...

Re: The wrong reaction to a grave mistake.
Which brings up another question: I wonder how dangerous Emi could be in an actual physical fight, considering her heavy physical conditioning? She'd seem to be perfectly capable of kicking ass. I wake up at night in a cold sweat to visions of Emi clocking some poor sod in the nuts with those blade...

Re: The best written route?
I loved Hanako's good end. Even though it is not an H-scene and just a kiss ... With that kiss Hanako is starting to own her body and her sexuality. In Hanako's H-scene, it's clear that sex is something she is letting Hisao do to her. It's almost a voluntary data rape. With the kiss, this is Hanako'...

Re: The best written route?
One thing I liked about all the paths was that the choice structure strongly reflects the subject matter. For instance, there's only one choice in Shuzune's path: if you want to be Shizune's (boy)friend you're pretty much doing whatever Shizune tells you to do. On the other hand the choice structure...

Re: The meaning of Katawa Shoujo.
Thinking about the meaning of the disabilities in KS: I think paradoxically the function of the disabilities in the story is to show how strong, capable, and able the women are. None of them need to be coddled or protected; they have all overcome tremendous challenges. Pretty uniformly in most of th...

Re: What to change
Why is feeling hollow a bad thing? Any work that can bring out strong emotions is to be treasured, as is the emotions themselves. Our society doesn't put huge stock in the negative emotions -- loneliness, hollowness, despair, guilt -- but these negative emotions can be sources of great personal grow...

Re: Preconceptions about the routes
Anyway, I guess you're either talking about when Sae talks about her husband or about that stuff about Picasso's blue period. In the first, Sae never explicitly says that her husband committed suicide - only that "his flame was bright but brief" and that "he died young." In poin...

Re: Concerning "Slow Recovery"
I know, the "slow recovery" options confused me also. My first thought was 1) I can be in denial about the heart condition or 2) I can be open and honest, including honest bitterness. On consideration, in this school bitterness about a disability is going to go down like a rock. Everybody ...

I strongly recommend going though it again. The stories and paths all reflect on each other and enhance each other. I got a lot more out of the stories after a second go-through.

Re: How is KS similar to your life?
1) Weird spacing at the start. What up with that? A really poor attempt at a list. I guess I should have looked at the editing commands ... like "List". 3) Shizune limited her own tools by being stubborn and standoffish manner. And the good end is as realistic an end as you can get:...
