It's not an issue of whether it's too late for the devs to write him getting better for KS 1 (assuming there ever will be a KS 2); it's that Long QT Syndrome can't be cured. Hisao has literally no chance of recovering fully from his disease, so the best he can do is to live with it.

I don't think Iwanako has any potential as a character; she's a device, but one that could be used very effectively along a few routes.

While it's possible that Iwanako could show up later, the fact that her face is never clearly seen suggests to me that she will not. This. I got the feeling that the only reason she was even given a name was because Hisao had a crush on her as well (I think), and it'd be odd not to mention her name...
