P.S. Do not bring Shinnosuke ^_^

-

“What's that you got there babe?”

“Oh, hey Shin. It's a wedding invitation. My sister is getting married in three months.”

“Cool. When're we going?”

“YOU are staying home. I've got a lot of other business to deal with in the States anyway. You take care of things here.”

“Aw, c'mon, I'm sure Nikki already forgotten about that whole... thing of ours. And she's not even crippled anymore! She doesn't do a thing for me.”

“Shin, say that word again and I'll sock you in the face.”

“What word, crippl-OW!”

“And I don't want you drooling over my sister either.”

“Why, does she still wear that thing on her back? OW!”

“Besides, it even says here on the invitation, 'Do not bring Shinnosuke.'”

“That's YOUR handwriting!”

“So it is. It's still on the invitation and I have to respect the wishes of whoever put it there.”

Shinnosuke rubbed his right cheek. Since Sayuka had only her left arm to slap with, his right side was getting accustomed to abuse.

“I'll be catching a flight to Boston in a couple days, with a couple stops along the way. Do you want any souvenirs?”

“Yeah, if you see Nikki, ask her if I can have my porn collection ba-OW!”

“Aren't you supposed to be picking up our boy from school? Get going!”

“Yes, boss. I'll send for the Rolls.”

“Oh, by the way, Shin, if ANY of my cars have so much as a scratch when I get home, you're going to the poor house so fast you'll think this was all a hallucination.”

Sayuka turned to her poor husband and smiled lovingly.

“Now drive safely, dear. I love you.”

...

“Oh, wow,” Luke greeted, “you're actually wearing clothes this time!”

“What?” Eri asked.

“...It was a hot day,” Yoshiko mumbled. “Don't worry, I dropped the walking stereotype act...”

“...you still drive that awful truck,” Eri nagged.

“...so you can rest easy that I won't embarrass you in public this time.”

“Good to hear,” Luke laughed. “What's in the basket, by the way?”

Yoshiko eagerly presented Luke with a basket containing a gift for his household. He reached in and opened one of the mason jars full of clear fluid.

“Ghack! What's in here, paint thinner?”

“It's moonshine,” Yoshiko answered, “I distilled it myself!”

“Well, if it isn't, um, Yoshiko and Eri, is it?” Luke's mother asked as she came in through the front door.

“Hello Mrs. Fisher! I'm glad you remembered my real name!”

“Oh, how could I forget? My, haven't you become the tall one. What brings you kids to these parts?”

“She eats a lot,” Eri replied, “we're just visiting. Don't worry, we won't be imposing on you guys this time.”

“Well that wouldn't be a problem, are you sure?”

“Yeah, I'm sure. Oh! Luke, before it gets lost in my bag, here.”

Eri presented Luke with a fancy looking envelope. Having an idea of what it contained, he nervously tried pocketing it before his inquisitive mother asked him about it.

“What's in the secret message?” Mrs. Fisher asked with a laugh.

“It's uh, an invitation to a party,” Yoshiko said. “Just a thing me and my roommate are throwing.”

Eri had been instructed not to say the L-word, G-word, and G-F-word prior to visiting, so she wouldn't blow their cover like she almost did the previous time.

“We're getting married.”

“Eri!” Luke and Nikki yelped as they slapped their foreheads in unison.

“What? She was gonna find out sooner or later.”

Mrs. Fisher laughed to herself. She always had a feeling about those two girls.

...

Yoshiko scratched her head in disgust. The wedding planner she and Eri hired had months to work with and every proposal she returned with was more godawful than the last.

”What's with all the rainbows and shit?”

”Well this theme here is a celebration of pride...”

”No. I just want to marry my girlfriend and have things look nice. Do you have something that isn't making a statement or oversaturated with some retarded theme? What else do you have?”

The wedding planner flipped through her portfolio futilely and shook her head.

”You're fired.”

”Miss Shimada, what are you doing here?”

“I had some business in town so I came early. Your mother let me inside.”

“Sorry, Sayuka, you caught me at a bad time.”

“A very bad time, I see. Why don't you send this untalented hack home?”

“But it's too late to hire anyone else.”

“Relax. My family has an event planner out here on retainer. I'll give him a call and everything will be taken care of. Don't worry about it.”

“Are you sure? Why, though?”

“As a wedding gift for you and Eriko. And to congratulate her for passing the board exam.”

“Eriko?”

“Oh, sorry, Eri. She reminds me of someone I knew.”

“Is there anything I can do to repay you?”

“Actually, Miss Tachibana, there is. I need an English interpreter for some business meetings I'll be attending. You see, 'You're fired!' is about the extent of my fluency. Apparently I'll have to say things other than that in the next few weeks.”

“Oh, okay, then.”

Yoshiko turned to the wedding planner who was doodling out candy themed wedding décor on a napkin.

”You're fired.”

...

“Eri! Wake up!”

Eri had been caught falling asleep at her own wedding reception for the third time that evening.

“Baby, cancel the honeymoon. I just want to sleep for the next three weeks.”

“Fine. I'll go to Australia all by myself then,” Yoshiko laughed. “I'm tired too, ya know.”

“Okay, you can just like, put me in your luggage and wake me up when we get back home,” Eri joked. “Hey, um, who the heck are all these people here? I saw all these faces on my side of the chapel that I don't recall ever being invited.”

“I think they came with Miss Shimada.”

“What the heck... ah, I guess if she is paying for all this, we might as well let her invite whoever the hell she wants, huh?”

“Yeah, tell me about it. Would you believe that girl we had before was going to put ME in a tuxedo? I got over that tomboy business years ago!”

“Now that things have died down for the moment,” Sayuka asked, slowly approaching their table, “may I have a moment with you both?”

Yoshiko, Eri, and Sayuka navigated their way around drunken guests and sat at a back table.

“Hey, Miss Shimada,” Eri said, “thanks for everything... for everything you've done for me.”

“Please, Eriko, don't thank me. It hasn't been enough.”

“There's that name again,” Yoshiko said with a squint. “Why do you keep calling her that?”

“It's fine. And thank you for bringing your guests. I know Yoshiko's family is mine but I really did feel better to see many faces on my side. Who are they?”

“The guests? They're my... no. They're our family, Eriko.”

“Please, I'm not worthy to associate myself with your clan... I...”

“No, it's not just that.”

Sayuka's voice started to crack. She fumbled around with her one arm, trying to get a handkerchief from her purse.

“What is it?” Eri asked, helping Sayuka out.

“I'm sorry, Eriko. I'm so sorry... I... Understand this, I love you very much and I didn't mean for things to happen this way. I didn't know...”

“What's going on, Miss Shimada? Did you say you love me?”

Yoshiko momentarily got up and snatched a tray full of champagne glasses. She could tell things were going to get interesting.

“Damn. We don't have any popcorn do we?”

“Nikki!” Eri scolded.

“Okay,” Sayuka said between wheezes. “I'll start from the beginning. Your mother's name was Mei, and your father's was Yuudai. You were born on January fourth, 1990...”

“How do you know these things?”

“...And your name was Eriko...”

“M-my name?”

“...Eriko Shimada. And you're my sister.”

“Holy crap!” Yoshiko exclaimed, chugging down two flutes.

“I'm so sorry, Eriko. I didn't know you were still alive until our mother passed away... And I wasn't told who you were until our after our father... I...”

Eri reached over and grabbed Sayuka around her neck, silencing her with a tight hug.

“Thank you. Today, I have everything I could possibly want... a wife who loves me and a family behind me.”

“No, my family is rotten. We abandoned you and, ...you weren't even on our parents' will, Eriko! Don't worry... I fixed that...”

“Shh. That's in the past now, don't worry about it. Please don't beat up yourself or feel like you need to spoil me over what our parents did. Let's just think about the future, okay?””

“Well, you're still the only other child and you're still getting half, okay?” Sayuka smiled and kissed her sister's forehead. “Congratulations, Mrs. Tachibana.”

Their tender moment was spoiled by the sound of glass shattering. Yoshiko was shaking her hand, which was dripping in blood and champagne, holding it away from her dress.

“Oh no! Are you okay? Sayuka, can you go back out front and get a first aid kit?”

“Jeez, it's just like the time whats-his-ass announced that I was engaged to him,” Dr. Tachibana said while attending to Mrs. Koyama's hand. “What happened?”

“Oh-My-God,” Yoshiko shuddered while making a sour face as if she consumed poison, “I'm related to Shin now!”

Hello, this is Doctor Stephanie Evans speaking, I've got a message for Mrs. Koyama, um, it's about your test results. Please call me back when you get this message, okay?

-

Taniya stepped into the nursing office's back room and plopped down into her usual bed. The occupant of the bed next to hers rustled around and called out.

“What are you in here for?”

“I felt like an after school nap but during school.”

The curtains of the next bed over withdrew quickly. The substitute teacher from Taniya's literature class glared at her. Taniya knocked on her pink helmet and fabricated an excuse.

“M-Miss Nicole... I uh... I'm feeling dizzy. After lunch I faint a lot.”

“Psh!” her teacher laughed, “I don't care. Just as long as you don't get in trouble while you're supposed to be in my class.”

“Oh, okay, good.” Taniya took off her headgear and relaxed. “What about you?”

“Personal stuff.”

The school's newest assistant staff doctor came into the room and checked on Taniya.

“Okay, Miss Watson, what's wrong?”

“I've got a burning sensation in my chest,” she sulked, pulling apart the buttons of her uniform's polo shirt.

“Burning?” the doctor questioned with concern. “How long have you been feeling it?”

“Since you started working here.”

“Excuse me?”

“It's true, Doctor Tachibana,” Taniya flirted, shaking her braids loose and draping them over her shoulders, “my heart burns with forbidden love.”

“D-Does your boyfriend know about this?”

“Jeremy is just a boy. I yearn for the affection of a woman.

“Taniya... I'm flattered but I just don't...” Eri paused as she heard snickering from behind the curtains of the next examination bed.

“You!” She yelled at Yoshiko after pulling open the curtains while Taniya burst into laughter. “You put her up to this didn't you?”

“Nope! The girl has a fertile imagination all on her own.”

“It's true Doctor Erica, I recognized her from the picture on your desk and everyone knows you're that way so...”

“My name isn't Erica.”

“Whatever. So, you wanna go out or what? Jeremy thinks that kind of thing is hot.”

Instead of answering, Eri grumbled and yanked Taniya's curtains shut, then told her to not eavesdrop.

“What are you doing here?” she asked Yoshiko.

“The English department is borrowing me for a few weeks. Apparently I've been a credentialed teacher for years and I didn't even know it.”

“Oh, I see. Aren't you supposed to be conducting class right now? I'm supposed to be working right now.”

“It's my off period. Anyways, Doctor 'Erica,' I'm feeling ill.”

“Really? What's wrong?”

Taniya cupped her hands by her ears and tried listening to Eri and Yoshiko's conversation, only able to hear Eri's excited words

“...how long?”

“Did you get checked on?”

“What did Dr. Evans say?”

Taniya pieced together the fragments and silently hooted at the juicy gossip she just heard. The conversation in the next bed broke down into whispering in Japanese sprinkled with the sounds of kissing. She decided to excuse herself before things got gross.

“Hey Doc, I'm feeling better now. I'll go back to class now.”

“You are?” Eri asked, surprised, having forgotten that she had another patient. She yanked back the sheets, revealing that she was also laying down on the bed. “I-I'll write you a hall pass.”

“Thanks.”

“And by the way, Miss Watson, anything you may have heard is confidential information between a doctor and her patient. Do you understand?”

“Yeah, I do. And congratulations.”

...Five months later...

“Aaaw, she's adorable,” Yoshiko squealed, looking at photos of Hanako's daughter. “Frankly, I'm glad she looks more like you.”

“Aw, thanks,” Hanako giggled.

Yoshiko and Hanako were holding onto a table at the Yamaku Academy Class of 2008's ten year Reunion ceremony. As soon as Hanako arrived at the table to vent at, Yoshiko constantly complained about the accommodations. Despite the fact that her filthy rich sister-in-law now ran the school, the ceremony was still being held in Yamaku's gloriously mediocre cafeteria.

The pair continued to reserve their spots while their spouses were away fetching drinks at the snack table. Not that their table was in any danger of being stolen, most of the attendees were at another table lined up for autographs from the co-hosts of Rin and Emi's Musical Funtime Variety Show.

“Oy, since Luke is gone, I gotta confess something to you.”

“What is it?”

Yoshiko took a deep breath and piled on twelve years worth of courage.

“I used to have the hugest crush on you.”

“W-What?!”

“It's true. Back in the day, I used to totally stalk you at the library.”

“I-I see...” Hanako stammered, shocked.

“Well, needless to say, I was pretty surprised when you ended up with a boy. I had you totally pegged for a lesbian.”

“I'm s-sorry.”

“It's okay,” Yoshiko laughed. “It's all in the past now. And I'm sorry too for making you stutter again. So anyways, are you sure you weren't gay? Not even a little bit?”

“No.” Hanako replied, shaking loose her long forgotten speech impediment.

“Wow. Weird. I wonder why I got that vibe from you.”

“It's cuz of Lilly. She's gay.”

Hanako pointed at Lilly and her longtime partner, the onetime student body president.

“Wait... her? And Her? But she's deaf... and she's blind. H-How does that even work?!”

“Shh, watch.”

Yoshiko watched Lilly and Shizune converse. In a strange display of adaptation, Shizune spoke with her own voice, more or less understandably, while Lilly complimented her speech with sign language.

“So, they understand each other, but not themselves?” Yoshiko noted, seeing a JSL teacher from Yamaku stop Lilly's speech to make minor adjustments to her finger positions.

The sign language instructor grabbed her beleaguered spouse, the school's assistant nurse and dragged him over to Hanako and Yoshiko's table.

“Got room for us?” Misha asked. “All the other tables are spoken for.”

“Just you two? I guess.”

“Hey, you... Tachibana, right? You didn't graduate with us, did you?”

“It's Koyama now. My wife graduated with you guys.”

“Oh yeah? Who's that?”

“Eri Shima...er Koyama from 3-1.” Yoshiko turned to Hisao, “Believe it or not, she's doing her residency as a staff doctor at a school just like this one back in the States.”

“See?” Misha prodded Hisao while jabbing him in the gut with her elbow. “A staff DOCTOR, how about that, NURSE Nakai?”

Hisao grumbled and sat down, wondering how he was talked into reconciling with Misha and remarrying her for the third time.

Eventually, Eri and Luke returned with refreshments. Yoshiko chugged down her apple juice and jumped out of her chair to give Luke a hug.

“Nikki! Wow it's been so long. It's good to see you...OHMYGODYOUREPREGNANT!”

“Yep!” she happily replied, stroking her belly. “I'm due in about three in a half!”

When the commotion died down, Misha fidgeted about, wondering how Eri and Yoshiko could possibly have a child together.

“Um, if you don't mind me asking,” she mumbled, “who is the...?”

Luke broke into a sweat with Hanako eying him suspiciously, while Hisao evasively looked around the room when Misha tried piecing together his actions during the times they were separated.

“Ain't mine!” Luke announced, partially putting to rest Hanako's fears. “That would just be weird.

“Well, don't look at me,” Hisao blurted out, “I barely know the girl!”

“Oh dear,” Eri laughed. “Our baby is our own, no matter what. But if you really must know, the father is...”

“Sure is looking awful lesbian in this school! I guess the feminists found the gay gene and put it in the drinking water, eh?” Kenji burst in out of nowhere into Yoshiko's arms.

“...a secret, sorry,” Eri sighed.

The whole table, save for Eri and Yoshiko, silently sat there, shocked that Kenji had survived the decade since graduating.

“What the hell you all looking at?” Kenji asked the blank-eyed tablemates, “Is it my eyes? I got them fixed years ago.”

“Kenji, bro... what the hell, man?” Hisao asked.

“Oh, what have I been up to? Let's see... I got my eyes fixed, then I enlisted in the JGSDF, served a few years, then when I got discharged for my excess genius, I got a sweet job with this defense company as a 'security consultant.' I've been traveling the world, bangin' broads and bustin' heads as a real-life mercenary since then. Now where's the food at?”

"Kenji has access to guns now,” Hisao lamented to the table, downing a drink. "We're doomed!”

After spending the better part of an hour in the bathroom, Fritz was finally finished. With eyebrows groomed, goatee touched up with pencil, and hair feathered to perfection. he was ready for his date.

"Are you done yet?" his mother asked at the door. "You've been there all afternoon."

"Relax, Ma, I'm done."

"Where are you going anyway?"

"I'm meeting up with Jennifer. I'm going to teach her how to bake and crochet."

Jennifer was Fritz's classmate from art school and a fellow aspiring fashion designer. She had been appearing at the house to pick up Fritz on occasion for the past few months.

“Hm,” Yoshiko noted, “you're wearing more mascara than usual, what's really going on?”

“None of your business, but if you really must know, Jennifer is my girlfriend.”

“...what?!” Yoshiko gasped, surprised. She loved her offspring dearly but that revelation shattered the preconceptions she had formed of her son, which she had only just recently started to accept.

“B-But you wear more makeup than she does!”

“Mother,” he nagged with a nasal lisp while dismissing her doubts with a limp flick of the wrist, “this isn't the stone age. LOTS of guys wear makeup!”

“On what planet?!”

Yoshiko cracked up, laughing at the ridiculousness of the whole situation. With outstretched arms, she grabbed her son and hugged him tightly to her chest.

“M-Mom...” he mumbled, trying to keep his face away from smearing all over her bosom, “my cravat is getting wrinkly.”

“I-I'm so glad, Fritz, so glad that you're not one of... those people. N-Not that there's anything wrong with it.”

“Uh, what? Aren't you and Dad...?”

“That's beside the point. We're different.”

“Whatever,” he said, peeling away from his walking contradiction of a mother.

“Your father is in the living room, be sure to tell her where you're going before you leave.”

...

“So there I was, laying on the pavement with the mother of all road rash. I tried getting up but my arms and legs just flopped around like noodles because they were broken in so many places. As soon as I figured out what happened, THEN it started to hurt!”

“Holy crap!” Anya said, hearing her mother's accident story, “that must've looked savage!”

Yoshiko and her daughter shared a few more laughs before things got serious. Even though she didn't share genes with her, Yoshiko never doubted for a moment that Anya was hers. Despite her brown hair, blue eyes, and freckles, Anya looked just like Yoshiko did at that age, with her serious expression, tomboyish manners, and unusual height. Actually, she was probably taller than Yoshiko was at that age.

“Hey,” Yoshiko said, eying Anya's leg braces, “you're really lucky, you know? Things could've been a lot worse.”

“How could they? I'm out of hockey for the rest of the year! That's the last time I fetch a kite from a tree. Stupid kids didn't even thank me because their kite got smashed up...”

“Your father tells me that you're lucky to not have been killed. Hell, when I was your age, doctors were so shitty back then, they would've written you off as crippled for life.”

“Ugh,” Anya whined, “I might as well be. This sucks.”

“It's only going to be three months, you'll survive. Try being stuck in a braces and crutches for five years. Now THAT sucks.”

Yoshiko opened up the cardboard box she came in with and pulled out a dusty black box, along with several miles worth of cables, along with the adapters needed for them to connect to the television in Anya's room.

“What the hell is that?”

“Don't swear. It's a Playstation... uh, Playstation 2, I think. Your grandparents bought it for me after I came home from my accident, to keep me from getting bored while recovering.”

“So what, you take the controller and you move it like this?” Anya asked, moving the controller around like the control yoke of an antique airplane.

“Joysticks and buttons,” Yoshiko corrected, mashing the controls back to life, which squeaked from decades of disuse.

“You know, you could probably get good money for this at a pawn shop...”

“If that was the case, your Uncle Luke is sitting on a fortune. I tried borrowing some of his old gaming systems but he claims that your aunt threw them out. Honestly, I think they still play with them.”

“Uh, Mom, it's in Japanese.” Anya complained, squinting her eyes at quality of early 21st century video game graphics.

“Oh, sorry,” Yoshiko said as she wandered her way through the game's menus to switch to Broken Dolls' terrible excuse for “English.”

“Wow, this sucks,” Anya laughed, skipping through the broken English of her mother's long forgotten dating-sim. “You people actually liked games like this?”

“Hey, that game was THE big thing when I was your age,” she said, snickering when she saw that the game's box still had a sticker that said “Property of Yamaku Academy Library.”

Hopefully, they weren't still calculating her fine for not returning it...

“But yeah, the game does suck. I hated it too,” she continued, playfully punching Anya in the arm, who hit back even harder.

“Anya, there's a boy at the door, looking for you,” Anya's “father” said at the door. Even though Eri was technically Anya's mother, she was the man of the house since she was the principal breadwinner and because Yoshiko's work allowed her to stay home and be a housewife. It also eliminated the confusion inherent in having two women to call “Mother.”

“Well well,” Yoshiko prodded, “a BOY coming here looking for you?”

“Yeah uh... I was going to tell you guys about him. He asked me out before my accident. We were kind've supposed to go on a date today but you know, stuff happened.”

“So do we let him in?” Eri asked.

“Yeah, yeah!” Yoshiko answered, “Let's see what kind of poor sap- I mean virtuous young man our daughter attracted!”

“Mom, Dad! No!” Anya cried, scrambling onto her bed.

“What's wrong?”

“I-I don't want him to see me like this. I'm all jacked up.”

“So?” Eri smirked, “Your mother was in far worse shape when I fell in love with her. AND her attitude was worse.”

“Hey...”

“If he's any friend or boyfriend worth keeping, then he'd be willing to look past you being a little injured, right Ma?”

“Uh, right. Nothing wrong with being a little busted up.”

“Great. Then it's settled,” Yoshiko enthusiastically said after an awkward silence, getting up, “I'll go let the young man inside and your father and I will go... out or something to stay out of your way. No hanky-panky, okay?”

“Why is Mom so excited?” Anya asked, seeing Yoshiko skip out of the room. “It's almost as if it's HER date.”

Eri laughed and leaned her head against her daughter's shoulder.

“She's just glad you're not a lesbian.”

“What?”

Any given female in one of Kosher's stories should be considered gay until proven straight.

Kenji took another sip from his glass of whiskey, then leaned back in the chair.

"You know, I can give you guys some special formulas I learned in the line of duty, if you want a little more kick."

"Nah, I'm good." Luke replied, perfectly content with his own glass of whiskey. His wife was fine with her wine, as well.

"If you say so."

"So, what happened after you were discharged from the SDF?"

"Well, not long after that, I got a call from a 'security firm' called Black Mountain Industries. They saw my record from the SDF and wanted me in their service. Desperately. They offered me a huge bonus and several promotions if I joined up. Of course, there was no way in hell I was letting my skills go to waste, so I accepted."

"By 'security firm' I assume you mean a PMC?"

"Pretty much."

"Hm. You know, I remember back when there were all these games about mercenaries and PMCs coming out, I actually considered it, but Hanako wouldn't let me."

"You're damn right I wouldn't! I love you way to much to have you die in some remote country." Luke's wife replied while pulling him close to her.

"Not every PMC contract is combat, you know." Kenji replied. "Several of them are just security, guard duty, stuff like that."

"Then how come you ended up getting so many dangerous jobs?" Luke asked.

"My reputation, pretty much. Everyone knew I was a badass, so I was given all sorts of dangerous missions. About two years after I joined, I gained another reputation, among the world's various brothels."

"Errr, yeah. So, what would you say was your most memorable mission?"

Kenji leaned back and looked up.

"My most memorable contract...That's a tough one, but if I had to pick, I'd say it was one I took back in 16'. I was spending some time off in the South Pacific. I remember that I was getting some head from three broads at the same time..."

Luke cleared his throat.

"Eh, anyways, when all of a sudden my phone starts ringing, so I answer it. It's my boss, he says 'Setou, we got a new job for you.' I ask him if it can wait, but he tells me this contract is paying out 300 grand, so I tell him 'Hell yeah I'll take it!' and hop on a plane to Nigeria. When I get there, I got guys at the airport whispering 'It's him!' 'It's Silent Death!'. That's the nickname I got in several of the countries where I worked. Some of my comrades called me 'Sierra Delta' because of it. Anyways, I hitched a ride to a camp and met up with my contact. He tells me that my job is to disrupt a local arms dealing ring, preferably by blowing the shit out of their primary production plant. I was also told that their leader might be there at the time, and was told I would get another 100 grand if I brought him in, dead or alive. I took the job. After spending a day to get re-acquainted with the region's local ladies and bars, I got my gear together and followed the directions to the plant."

"By yourself?"

"Of course. So I snuck up on the plant by crawling through the tall grass with my gun at the ready. I carefully watched how the guards were patrolling, and when I saw an opening, I rushed through into what I assumed was the main building. I made my way through to the basement. There was a guard there, but I just snuck up on him and snapped his neck like a breadstick. I found the weakest point in the machine and planted some explosives on it and got the hell out of there. I was spotted on my way out, but I took out several of them, took cover, and blew the place up. As I'm hauling ass away from this place, I see this jeep leaving the compound. So, I raise my rifle, let out my breath...and fired a single shot. It impacted directly in the center of the back of his head, about mid-way up on the ears. Shattered his brain stem and dropped him instantly. I check, and sure enough, it's the head guy, so I snapped a picture for verification. After that I call for the evac chopper and get back to camp. 400 grand in my pocket on that one."

"Damn. What would you say was the closest call you had on a job?"

"Hm....Oh, I remember this one time where me and some other PMCs was running river patrol with some local government agency in Panama to help stop drug trade from Columbia and other South American countries up into Mexico and the US. We'd stop guys all the time on their boats to check for drugs. Sometimes we found some, sometimes we didn't. I remember one day we stopped this speedboat coming through. It was just two guys on it, so they sent me to check. So I patted down the two guys, then started checking the boat. I opened up the engine compartment, and I hit paydirt. There's several kilos of cocaine in there. Just then, I get grabbed from behind by one of the guys. I just whip around and punch him right in the gut, but his buddy pulls out an Uzi from a secret compartment under the driver's console and starts shooting at me. One hit went right here..." Kenji started pointing to the various impact spots as demonstration. "...right at the edge of my kevlar vest. Another one hits the vest and penetrates slightly, leaving me with a tiny cut. One just misses the vest's edge and hits me right here, in the shoulder. Another one scraped my neck. Then, one of the guys on the PR boat shoots the guy with the Uzi. I take the opportunity and beat the shit out of the other guy and put some zip-cuffs on him. The bullet that hit me in the shoulder get lodged in a bone and had to get pulled out, but other than that, I was OK. I still think that was a really close call though. If my buddy on the boat was just a second late, another bullet might have hit my neck or head."

"Sounds pretty exciting."

"It was man, it was."

Just then, Kenji's phone went off. He opened it up and took a look.

"New assignment?"

"..."

"Kenji?"

"...No, it's someone else, I'll have to tell you some more stories another time. It was great to see ya'll again."

After some hugs goodbye, Kenji returned to the airstrip and set the GPS in his private jet on a course to Massachusetts.
