The biggest problem I see with a lot of platformers is that it gets too repetitive when all you do is jump, run, and collect coins. Good luck coming up with something addictive that appeals to both KS and non-KS players!

Emi receives an upgrade halfway through the first level; her prostheses is a machine gun that shoots lemons
Rocket-jet legs double jump upgrade
levels that feature 5 of the other main girls as stage bosses;
a library level that turns into a volcano stage where fire erupts from the other side of the screen every 6 seconds and the player must find cover
student council level with cannons, cavalries, and drills.
a cloud level ending with a rooftop duel with Rin, upon her defeat she reveals her true form as the hallway portrait avatar
a car chase level where you jump through a traffic full of trucks and cars and finally catch on to Akira, she is a gun toting mobster that throws molotov cocktails at the player
Final stage: Kenji's room
Kenji boss, lol. that would be totally awesome. also, nice sprite, when gonna see the running one?? :mrgreen:

Well, sprites aren't exactly important right now, I still need to get everything working first. Things are also going to go slow for a few weeks due to school, but I'm not going to just abandon this.

Haha, this sounds amazing :D

Although how long do you want this game to be? Antyhign more than about a level, and you'll need to introduce more elements into it than the typical coin-collect-run game.

I'd suggest something like 5 'normal' levels, followed by a bonus level, or a boss level depending on what kind of game you're looking for. Bonus levels would work well as a track event, where you just run and need to collect coins (if that's the mechanic), but there are no enemies or danger.

Minigame, where you have to direct energy around Emi's body to do different things? Introducing the 'juggling resources' aspect of a game, but probably at the expense of actually running her around.

Different paths in the game, to draw inspiration from the differing paths you can take in KS, and give another level to the whole "actually playing" bit?

Again, depending on how big the game was intended to be, the coins could go towards unlocking equipment/cutscenes/pictures etc etc, which would give a higher incentive and more playtime than simple score improvements.
Routes played: Emi (10/10), Shizune (6/10), Lilly (9/10), Hanako (9/10), Rin (7.5/10)
Emi > Hanako = Lilly > Rin > Shizune

All I can think of is...

Nurse is a helpful NPC who gives Emi a protective barrier that lets her take an extra hit if she finds him.

Rin is a helpful NPC that appears at the beginning and end of each level; she creates portals to the next level with her paintings.

Hisao is a helpful NPC that gives Emi a 1UP.

Oh, and a space shooter mode, where Emi's legs transform into a rocket engine.

And sorry for not being able to contribute to the actual furthering of the game's completion; it's just a pretty cool idea that I wanted to think about.

For what it's worth, I could probably help with sprites/graphics/textures and things of that nature. I work on sprite and graphics stuff for Doom fairly often in my free time, so I do have a fair bit of experience with that kind of thing.

This makes me realize that an Emi model to replace Chell in Portal would be awesome. And a little tasteless, but still...

In at least one level, you'd get to the end and Rin would be standing there in front of a unfinished exit door. She'd explain that you can't beat the level yet because she ran out of paint and can't finishing painting the exit. Then you'd have to backtrack through the level, find the paint can, and bring it back to her.

Having one level be a race between Emi and Miki might be fun as well. You could even toss in Hisao as a third racer for comedy relief.

He'd collapse very quickly, likely screaming out, "HNNNNNNNNNNNGH!!" :D
