I quite liked it, actually.

So, in another thread, there was some discussion about how gratuitous the sex in this fic was... and now that discussion has come here.

The thing about sex in an Emi fic is that Emi is an extremely sexual person... and if you show everything from a defined period of time, rather than cherrypicking relevant scenes, and Emi's one of the main characters you're depicting... that time's probably gonna have a fair amount of sex in it. Now, is it a bit fanservicey to depict that much sex? Sure, but it's also realistic, IMO - Emi really does express herself sexually, and I thought the sex was fairly well done. Definitely not the best I've read, but not bad (and I've read worse (that wasn't TRYING to be bad) in the VN itself - pistoning, anyone?). The second scene was a bit ridiculous, but I didn't find it out of character really, just ridiculous...

As far as the storyline, in a KS context, fairly fresh, gave a good conflict, and plenty of fluff mixed in. It's an idiot ball I could see Emi picking up, too, and Hisao is a bit prone to being dragged around by any girl he's with, if she's at all a take-charge type (so, anyone but Hanako and Rin).

And, re: it being white knighty... that actually is a concern, although to be fair, that was resolved in the VN, and it should be noted that... to steal a line from the VN... they were knights that helped one another.

To be fair, I think the white knighting was more in regards to Emi's emotional well-being. Carrying her legless ass off a mountain seems like another thing entirely.

*nods* I think sometimes folks here get carried away and call nearly anything that involves helping another person "white knighting". It really gets to absurd levels sometimes.

Shortly after I started posting here, someone recommended this as the best Emi-centric story out there. I remember thinking upon reading it that it was fair, hindered by being cliche and formulaic (and thus somewhat predictable), and that if this was the best there was then that was a little sad. A second read hasn't changed that opinion. At least the characters generally behave in character, so credit to Mountaineer on that one. I agree with pretty much everything bhtooefr said about the H-scenes -- it's not the frequency of them that's a problem, it's the awkward style, such that they wear out their welcome pretty quickly. Although I hadn't thought about it, this probably would make for a pretty decent film, where you don't have to read this sort of thing.

So...yeah, we'll call it a mixed bag. However, having read many more stories, I now must admit that this is the best Emi-centric story I've read, and that's still a little sad.

Although awkwardly scripted sex scenes don't work in film, either.

(Then again, awkwardly scripted sex in a good plot works better than awkward plot tacked onto good sex... but then, usually when the plot's awkward, the sex is awkwardly scripted, too.)

Someday, I really need to get off my metaphorical ass and write the Emi epilogue I long to read.
I found out about Katawa Shoujo through the forums of Misfile. There, I am the editor of Misfiled Dreams.

Alright, the next one was reccomended to me by brythain, and it is:

Constant Companion

It is rather short, so we'll meet in 2 days in case someone missed it, so i shall see you all on the 16th. Feel free to input suggestions whenever ou like btw, being lazy is something I strive for.

Another thing, would anyone be distressed if I went to Fanfiction.net and other sources? I'm not sure what else to pull from the fourms.

There's PLENTY to pull from the forums.
Not sure if the Cook would mind, but I for one don't go to ff.net.

I'd prefer to keep to the forum.

I don't mind an occasional pastepin post, but I'd prefer to stay way from fanfic.net.

And if you ever run short on ideas, just PM somebody at random and have them pick the next story.

Yeah, I'll third this. I avoid that site like the plague.

I'm still waiting for my suggestion from a couple months ago (Starbursts) to come up for discussion. You told me it would be next, Sea! :x

Argh! 'Constant Companion' should come after that then. Which starts a short queue, at least.

Nah, that's not necessary. I already read this one anyway. I'll wait for the next one :) .

Firstly, sorry, my memory is slightly longer than the length of most Miki routes so you'll have to forgive my forgetfulness.
Secondly, Y'all may begin!
Thirdly, Starburst is next. Spoilers!

I thought it was cute. Misha getting all annoyed over Hisao's stupidity, and letting on that she just might have feelings for him. Even if she was exaggerating in the face of mortality, I still felt it was at least within Misha's character.
