Occasional Art Thread

Post by Umber »

Rather self-explanatory title. I might post a sketch or two based on whatever happens to come across my mind, or if something inspires me. Side note: I don't own a Bamboo, everything is by pencil, paper. Also Flash 8. I now own a Wacom Intuos and Photoshop CS6. You are all doomed.

You have been warned.

Critique is always welcomed.

For forgetmenot's Kagami Pseudo-route, here. I suggest you read it, it's amazing. If not in progress.

This looks great! I love the texture of the paper parchment, or what ever that material is. It's really cool to see someone on a traditional medium with all this madness swirling about. I must make a point to go and read through that, because I totally have the time for that (is what i shall tell myself) Keep it up~! We need more arts around this place.

As I said in my PMs earlier, I'm totally flabbergasted that anyone would create anything based on my humble fanfiction. You're awesome, and the drawings are super great.

Also I promise new chapters soon :P

I suppose throwing filters on top of a photographed image is a pretty decent-ish approach, so thanks. :P

A quick sketch on Natsume and the newspaper room. Mostly to practice on depth and hands, the latter just frustrates me to no end.

Thumbnail for clarity:

(I typically leave the hands drawn as I sketched them - meaning, they look like a mannequin's. It helps get the figure right, kind of.)

Every artist ever agrees with you there.

As for the drawing itself, I know it's a common thing in the anime style to...not-draw the nose... or at least make it so incredibly small that it couldn't possibly be used to smell yummy foods, but in this case, it looks a bit silly. I can't really tell why. It's just what my brains are telling me. Also, again, common trait, but the eyes are quite a ways apart.

Otherwise, it's a pretty nice drawing. Perspective doesn't look really weird n' stuff, so that's good. Backgrounds cool too. Overall, I like it, but I'm not sure if my opinion matters much in this case.

Of course it does! Silly Keiichi.

I normally don't draw the nose, and if I do, it's rather lightly. The eyes seeming wide was me trying to balance out the angle of Natsume's head, but I guess it didn't go quite as planned.

I ended up drawing a nose during work and will probably get around to putting that in soon.

Natsume looks really cute in this!

Also, hands are the bane of my existence as well, but honestly the mannequin-esque style of hands you've done here works well with the breezy, dynamic feel of the drawing anyhow. Well done!

Thanks! I'm still working on it. Sketching hands will, eventually, be in my grasp (haaaa).

I can't quite put my finger on it but something makes that sketch remind me a lot of a woodcut… very nice!

As a bloke who loves some Newspaper Club and hates hands, I can say I an thoroughly enjoying this update :D
Her hand itself looks fabulous - I've always found it difficult making fingers anything other than boneless sausages, and you've managed to pull it off wonderfully!
I think your style of drawing is really interesting, I can't wait to see what else you can pull off :P
Great work, mate!
Like stupid, silly doodles with no point? You've come to the right place, friend :^)
I also occasionally write oneshots. Why not have a skimread?
Miki fic? Miki fic!

Another picture, featuring Kenji. It might be a little...out there...?

Image

rtilrtil inspired this one, and so did Kazue Kato. If you can spot the references, then all the more props to you, and the understanding of why I can't take that much credit for this one. Otherwise, enjoy that depiction of Kenji.

Here's the unsaturated version (as it isn't as much of an eyesore...):
